A Florida man was paralyzed when his elaborate plot to kill his estranged wife backfired and the woman’s daughter shot him, authorities said.
Henry Herbig, 65, faces charges after he allegedly attempted to kill his estranged wife Sept. 8 at her home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, news station WAVY reported.
Police said Herbig spent weeks plotting his wife’s demise, filling a journal with details about his scheme.
He then left his cellphone at his Pace, Fla., home so he couldn’t be tracked by GPS as he drove to Virginia Beach, police said.
During the journey, he only used cash and avoided tolls, as well as stores that might have security cameras, officials said.
When he arrived in the area, Herbig allegedly put on a wig to disguise himself, then went inside his wife’s home with a gun and wrench.
He struck his stepdaughter over the head with the wrench while she was letting her dog out in the backyard, news station WTKR reported. The man then forced entry into the home to assault her mother with the same weapon.
But the stepdaughter thwarted the attack when she grabbed a gun and shot him, severing his spine, officials said.
Herbig was paralyzed from the incident and remains in a hospital bed at the Virginia City Beach Jail.
He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, as well as breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.
Due to his condition, he didn’t appear Wednesday in court, where he was denied bond, according to WTKR.
This jerk got exactly what he deserved. People make some really stupid choices in life. If you’re that damn miserable, take yourself out, the world won’t miss you one bit.
