Foul play not suspected in Henderson Police officer’s death

8 News Now – by Caroline Bleakley

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — City officials say they don’t suspect foul play in the death of a 33-year-old off-duty Henderson police officer found dead at home.

Clark County coroner’s officials say David John Sigmund was found dead in his home on Monday. A cause and manner of death have not yet been released.

City spokeswoman Kathleen Richards say a police honor guard will participate in Sigmund’s funeral, which is set for Monday.

Sigmund served in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq in 2003, according to his obituary.

He was hired by the department in 2005 and was assigned to the patrol division before he moved into the community relations bureau in 2010.

He was honored in spring 2011 with the department’s valorous conduct and lifesaving awards for two distinct acts of heroism.
