GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Nassau County police said they are searching for a suspect after two people were shot near the Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City.

The shooting happened just after 10 a.m. on South Street, police said.

Few details are known at this time, but police said the suspect fled the scene in a white Honda after the shooting.

Police have swarmed the area and the mall has been placed on lockdown. The mall has not been evacuated, police said.

Police have also closed off all exits to the Meadowbrook Parkway by the mall.

The Garden City School District said classes are going on as normal, but said schools have been placed on a lockout mode, meaning no one is being allowed into school buildings.

One of the victims is said to be in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center, police said.

The suspect is described as being an Asian male, 6-feet-2 inches tall and was last seen wearing a grey suit jacket and a red shirt, police said.
