Houston police chief sounds off on gun control and mass shootings in the wake of the Santa Fe High School massacre

Houston Police chief Art Acevedo says it’s time to do something different to address gun violence in America.

Acevedo sounded off after the latest deadly mass shooting on Friday — this time, in Santa Fe, Texas, where 10 people were killed when a student opened fire inside a classroom there.

“Today I spent the day dealing with another mass shooting of children and a responding police officer who is clinging to life. I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve shed tears of sadness, pain and anger,” Acevedo wrote in his Facebook post on Friday.

The police chief criticized the typical gun-rights drumbeat he hears in the wake of mass shootings like the one in Santa Fe, and the many others before it.

“I know some have strong feelings about gun rights,” Acevedo said, “but I want you to know I’ve hit rock bottom and I am not interested in your views as it pertains to this issue.”

There have been more than 100 mass shootings in the US so far this year. The massacre at Santa Fe High School followed another high-profile tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February.

Since then, as has been the case with many other mass shootings in the US, a collective outrage builds among citizens, politicians, and other public figures, and then the tragedy falls off the radar, until the next one. Acevedo says he believes it’s time to break the cycle.

“The hatred being spewed in our country and the new norms we, so-called people of faith are accepting, is as much to blame for so much of the violence in our once pragmatic Nation,” Acevedo said.

He continued: “This isn’t a time for prayers, and study and Inaction, it’s a time for prayers, action and the asking of God’s forgiveness for our inaction (especially the elected officials that ran to the cameras today, acted in a solemn manner, called for prayers, and will once again do absolutely nothing).”

  1. “I know some have strong feelings about gun rights,” Acevedo said, “but I want you to know I’ve hit rock bottom and I am not interested in your views as it pertains to this issue.”

Spoken like a true demagogue with a God complex.

assevedo and I share the same words, but not the same opinion.

Turn in your tin star, pig boy, and you should have charges read to you. Then a short walk to the gallows.

American Nationals also have “strong feelings about gun rights”. Unfortunately for you asshole, the rights of American Nations don’t end where your feelings start. Go take a walk off the highest cliff in the area so that you can truly know what “hitting rock bottom” really feels like. As soon as you and the rest of the New World Order try to confiscate American Nationals’ guns, you can expect an immediate reaction, and trust me, you will like that even less.

  3. Our rights will not be taken away by immediate confiscation. They are being taken away pieces at a time thru the court system. It is time to start fighting back by filing lawsuits, and finding a judge who agrees with us, and get him to issue a court order to stop gun control laws. And when assholes like this get up there on their bully pulpit and start fanning the wave of high emotions, thats when it is most dangerous to our rights. The people of houston need to initate recalls on this man, or large protests, and immediately.

    1. You can protest all you want. Nothing will happen until we ban together as a common law court . Form a grand jury, investigate and indict these assholes for sedition and treason, trial by jury and hanged.
When this happens, and it will………. There will be a great war, between American Nationals and the current government. This cannot be avoided, because the Bill of Rights removes thier parasitic way of life.
So yeah. I’m way the heck past protesting……

Well, there it is in his own words folks. I told people it would be their beloved police( and military) that was gonna come for your guns. Did yhey think Feinstein and Clinton were gonna do it themselves? And when they shiw up at the doors of these so called brave Americans, well then, that will be the moment if truth we see if all that come and take it and molon labe was real or all talk. Remember, this is American law enforcement, who took an oath to the constitution and here he is saying he’s not interested in that. Lol, of course they aren’t. They never were. So brave America, what are we gonna do?
