I am a curious person. Everytime I see a good logo, I wonder where it came from and what motivated the owners with their company name meaning. What made them feel that the name was going to advertise well? Was there a more personal reason? Did it just boil down to vanity? Here are well known companies, their logo and the reason behind their company name meaning.
1. 3M – Because Minnesota Mining Manufacturing Company is quite the mouthful!
2. 7-11 – I think my company would be called Noon-2.
3. Adidas – Adidas vs. Puma
4. Adobe – Adobe Creek
5. Amazon.com – They’ve got everything from a-z.
6. AMC THEATRES – Pioneers of multi-screen cinemas.
7. Arby’s – More creative than RB’s.
8. ARM & HAMMER – A bit of thought put into that one.
9. ATARI – Check!
10. AT&T – American Telephone and Telegraph Company
11. AUDI – Horch is too much like Porsche anyway.
12. BRIDGESTONE – Bridge of stone, really?
13. Canon – Kwanon just doesn’t look right.
14. Coca-Cola – Why’d they ever quit using coca leaves?
15. Comcast – Another hybrid word, fantastic.
16. Ebay – Way to go, Nevada.
17. GEICO – From government employees to cavemen to a lizard, their ads are all over the place.
18. IBM – Always one-up your competitor.
19. IKEA – It just rolls off the tongue, especially when compared to the alternative.
20. LEGO – To play well… and they most certainly do!
