Following the botched no-knock drug raid that left Dennis Tuttle and his wife Rhogena Nicholas dead in their Houston home, the narcotics officer who lied to obtain the warrant, Gerald Goines, has been allowed to retire.
Other officers that took part in the raid have also been granted retirement.
The Harris County District Attorney is reviewing over 2,000 cases involving Goines and his team and several charges have already been dropped as a result.
In the raid that left the Tuttles dead, Goines falsely claimed to have witnessed a Confidential Informant purchase heroin in the home.
In the search following the deadly raid, the only heroin reportedly found was in the vehicle and raid vest of Officer Gerald Goines – it’s alleged he intended to plant the heroin but was shot during the raid and evacuated.
Despite promises by Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo to terminate the employment of Goines when the officer was released from the hospital, the dirty cop was allowed to retire.
Goines was a 34-year veteran of the Houston Police Department and carried a notorious reputation in the communities that he served.
According to a 2016 report, HPD retired officers receive between $3,400 and $4,000 monthly.
Despite their actions that led to the death of Dennis Tuttle and his wife, Rhogena, Gerald Goines and his colleagues, will receive up to $48,000 a year until death.
