A man from the southern Japanese island of Okinawa is arrested on suspicion of making death threats to U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and the U.S. embassy.

Japanese police arrested a man suspected of making death threats to U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and to the American embassy.

The man from Okinawa has been identified by media as Mitsuyoshi Kamiya.

He’s being brought to Tokyo for questioning.

Japanese media say the U.S. Embassy received the threats by telephone last month, with several phone calls made by a man speaking in English.

Reports of the threats emerged as first lady Michelle Obama arrived in Japan for a three-day visit.

Kennedy, the daughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy began her assignment in Japan in November 2013.
