Malaysia Airlines plane reported shot down near Ukraine-Russia border

A Malaysia Airlines plane carrying was reportedly shot down near the Ukraine-Russia border Thursday, killing all 295 people on board, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior ministry said.

An aide quoted by Interfax said the total number of dead in the crash was more than 300 and includes 23 U.S. citizens.

The plane, en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, was brought down by a ground-to-air missile, the ministry said.

Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, wrote on Facebook that the plane was flying at an altitude 33,000 feet when it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine’s military was not responsible for the reported attack.

“We do not exclude that this plane was shot down, and we stress that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not take action against any airborne targets,” Poroshenko said, according to the Associated Press. “We are sure that those who are guilty in this tragedy will be held responsible.”

Malaysian Airlines tweeted that it lost contact with Flight MH17 over Ukrainian airspace:

The airline later confirmed the crash, approximately 50 kilometers from the Russia-Ukraine border:

Flight MH17 operated on a Boeing 777 departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Amsterdam local time) and was estimated to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.10 am (Malaysia local time) the next day. The flight was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew onboard.

The Donetsk region government said the plane crashed near a village called Grabovo, an area that has seen clashes between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russia separatist rebels in recent days.

On Wednesday evening, a Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down by a Russian plane, Ukrainian authorities told the AP.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the White House was aware of reports of the crash but that he was “not in a position to confirm” details. President Barack Obama has been briefed and has directed his national security team to be “in close touch” with Ukrainian authorities, Earnest said. (Obama ignored a shouted question about reports of the crash as he made his way from the Oval Office to Marine One.)

Earlier Thursday, Obama spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, at Moscow’s request, to discuss new sanctions announced by United States and European Union. According to the White House, Putin mentioned reports of the crash during the call.

The crash comes four months after Malaysian Airlines Flight M370 lost contact less than an hour after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and vanished.

That flight was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members.

  1. What is it with 777’s operated by Malaysia Airlines? Kuala Lumpur is another common denominator. I can’t help but notice that unlike the flights involved with 9/11, there is plenty of debris left after this plane crash.

        1. Yea, I noticed that. Typical Hollywood publicity/scandals. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Although this comment from it is quite funny.

“People went nuts on Biggs, saying, among other things, “Go f**k a pie you piece of s**t.”

  2. Man, I can’t take a day off. I try to stay away from the news for ONE day and this happens. Watch them try to place the blame on Russia. The first Malaysia plane incident was used to develop a story. This one is used to try and further cause strife and suspicion against Russia and you can bet there will be a third and finally one which will ultimately be the one where they will reveal who really did it.

Also, this is going to be used to keep people’s attention away from the border crisis since it is getting so hot. Now the MSM will have something that they think will be more important to cover other than the illegal immigrant invasion.

You know, I’m still waiting for something to unravel in South America. It seems to me that chaos is happening all over the world except in South America. We all know that the elite need and want the entire world in chaos, so with the BRICs thing and with Russia and China investing in South America and Central America, you can bet your ass something is going to develop and erupt in the not too distant future. They can’t have a world war if the entire world is not at war at the same time. They also can’t have their NWO if the entire world is not in chaos at the same time.

At least they’re not calling THAT one a crash.

    ‘Vanished’ about sums it up.
