Md. ‘free range’ kids found alone again, taken into custody

WASHINGTON — The “free-range parents” who were accused of child neglect for allowing their two kids to roam free through Silver Spring ran afoul of Child Protective Services again on Sunday.

Danielle and Alexander Meitiv’s two children were taken into the custody of Child Protective Services after someone called about two unattended children near Fenton and Easley Streets in Silver Spring, says Paul Starks, of the Montgomery County Police. Officers got to the scene, called CPS and say they were told to take the children, ages 6 and 10, to CPS offices.

Starks says the police and CPS are investigating, and the State’s Attorney’s office might get involved. But there won’t be a decision on charges until after the investigation is complete. Our partners at NBC4 say Child Protective Services spokeswoman Mary Anderson confirms that CPS is following up on this.

Fox5 says 10-year-old Rafi and 6-year-old Dvora are back with their parents, but that the police brought them to CPS at about 5 p.m., and Danielle and Alexander Meitiv weren’t told where they were until about 8 and didn’t get the children back until about 10:30.

The parents had to sign a temporary safety plan to take them home, saying they can’t leave the children unattended, Fox5 says.

Danielle and Alexander Meitiv were found responsible for “unsubstantiated” child neglect last month.

  1. Sounds to me like somebody up high wants to have these kids “put away” so that they can be “adopted” by them……. and molested. It’s a trick older than the hills.
In itself, this story is the epitome of how America has gone to hell.
Don’t blame the system. WE…..WE….WE….have allowed this to happen to our Country.

  2. OMG! Six and ten year olds allowed to go out and play by themselves! Anyone on this site over 50 can remember when our parents would send us out to play all day alone. I,myself, if I had bus fare would wander all over town, go to a movie, window shop or just sit in the park feeding pigeons. And there was nothing unusual in that as most of my friends did the same. I know times have changed, but damn. Of course we didn’t have little puke beaurecrats from a Stalinist CPS watching us either.

  3. Can you feel the weight becoming heavier and heavier as this country is spiraling out of control?

Every time this happens, chalk one more person waking up to the reality of what is truly happening and in this case, it’s the kids, their parents, grandparents and friends.

I’ll say it again, “desperate people do desperate things” but “desperate governments do what they want!”

  4. Maryland police and CPS agents snatched two “free-range” children off a park and failed to notify the panicked children’s parents for hours, only releasing the children upon having the parents sign a “safety plan” demanding they act as helicopter parents and refuse to let their kids be unsupervised at any time.

This is the second time now this family’s has been harassed by Maryland CPS for allowing their children to have some level of personal freedom.

  5. The ones that are preying on these children and their parents are the bastards at CPS and the bastards in uniform that are helping them with this crime. I keep saying to all that this is going to continue to escalate and get more tyrannical and day by day it does just that. It is going to take a lot more than a voting booth or a criminal court system that is totally criminal to ever get our freedom back. To think the next selected criminal at any level of government is actually going to do anything meaningful is utter folly!

  6. “The parents had to sign a temporary safety plan to take them home, saying they can’t leave the children unattended, Fox5 says.”

    HAD to sign? ‘Safety’ plan?

So, who REALLY ‘owns’ those kids.
