NEW YORK – On the eve of a critical Capitol Hill discussion on Syria and two days before his address to the nation, President Obama has offered Syrian President Bashar al-Assad a way out of any U.S. bombing campaign.
Informed Middle Eastern intelligence officials tell WND the U.S. passed a message to Assad through Russia offering a deal that would ensure against U.S. military action if the Syrian leader agrees to the following terms:
- Serious political reforms that will result in free and fair presidential elections.
- Assad will not be allowed to run in future presidential elections and agrees to step down from power.
- An international committee will supervise control of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.
- The international community, with U.S. participation, will help rebuild the Syrian army and security services to guarantee participation from all factions of the population. The model for this reorganization is the so-called Dayton plan that has been overseeing the restructuring of the Palestinian Authority security organizations and militias.
The Middle Eastern security officials told WND that Russia has already objected to the term that bars Assad from running in future presidential elections.
The security officials further stated the U.S. believes Assad will likely reject the deal.
The officials said Russian, North Korean and Iranian experts continue to prepare Syria’s military and missile arsenal for the possibility of war, including the contingency of firing missiles at Israel, Jordan and Turkey.
As WND first reported, Iranian and North Korean experts are directing an operations room for the Syrian army ahead of a possible showdown with Western powers, according to informed Middle Eastern security officials.
The Iranians and North Koreans, based inside Syria, are focusing their efforts on ensuring the viability of Syria’s air defense systems while maintaining the embattled country’s vast missile arsenal, the officials said.
The officials said Iran has gone so far as to pledge soldiers to Syria if such mercenaries are needed in a confrontation.
Russian military experts are also participating in the preparation efforts by advising the Syrian army, but Moscow has not met the expectations of Assad’s regime regarding the extent of their involvement, the officials said.
The Middle Eastern security officials further told WND they have information Iran failed to convince the Hamas command in the Gaza Strip to fire rockets into the Jewish state in the event of a Western attack on Syria.
The officials believe that if a Western attack against Damascus is surgical and is carried out without the goal of regime change, the Syrians may not retaliate against Israel.

An interesting turn with Hamas I note in that by taking sides against Syria they are in fact dooming themselves to lack of funds and equipment, wish we knew more of why they have abandoned the most logical stances that denies them support from Hezbollah, Syria and Iran but also now the Egyptian military who are supporting Assad, leaving the piecemeal odds and ends Jordan lets in.
Assad has already agreed to let the country go to free elections in 2014 so that’s a no brainer, barring someone who has 70% of the nations support is not so easy.
Yet why the sudden emergence that Iran with North Korea are manning Assad’s defence systems? Isn’t this a bit weird? Are they trying to insinuate that Assad doesn’t trust his defence command staff? Or is this a puff piece designed to level blame and pointed fingers at two other countries.
And why do these “officials” not named as per usual think that Assad is not going to answer back if critical military sites are struck by western weapons? Isn’t this just a little bit of self fooling going on based on Assad’s lack of response for two previous attacks?
None of this fits into what we know and much defies logic and likelihood, Moscow allegedly not meeting its expectations but that is based on what we know, Russian ships have been docking at Tartus continually, we don’t know what Putin has given Syria but the fact that Putin with China have increased their naval presences to a war state suggests Putin is going to back Assad all the way, with Iran on the team, closing the straits of Hormuz as an almost certain act, the resulting global crisis from that alone will hurt us all, with China sitting with a brigade of Marines ready to deploy as well, Russia ready to roll into Georgia the moment the balloon goes up suggests that America is out of its depth especially with NATO stating that it will not be part of any war in Syria, America is alone.
This is not surprising with Hama’s. Palestinians are Sunnis, same as Saudi Arabia.
Notice how often Iran and North Korea are mentioned in this article. Those “axis of evil countries”, don’t ya know! I take anything from WND with a grain of salt, as they are in Israhell’s pocket-Joseph Farah comes to mind.
Farah was given the Zionist Journalist of the year award a few years ago. So, we know we can’t trust anything he says if Israel’s interests are involved.
Hahaha! Obama is basically saying, “Look, I know I was wrong. Please don’t make me look bad in front of the world. So just follow these 4 points and we’ll call it even, OK?”
“Serious political reforms that will result in free and fair presidential elections.
Assad will not be allowed to run in future presidential elections and agrees to step down from power.
An international committee will supervise control of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.
The international community, with U.S. participation, will help rebuild the Syrian army and security services to guarantee participation from all factions of the population. The model for this reorganization is the so-called Dayton plan that has been overseeing the restructuring of the Palestinian Authority security organizations and militias.”
Isn’t this the same terms/template used for Saddam in Iraq and Gaddafi in Libya? It seems like they just changed the country and the name of the leader.
Wow. How sloppy and desperate can they get.
How transparent can he get? Granted, he touted transparency in (so-called) ‘government’ in his campaign ‘promises’ (right), but this is sheer, blatant stupidity (as well as NOT the type of transparency Obummer was referring to).
Nothing like making Assad an offer he can, must, and will refuse.
