Ohio firefighter shot and wounded at scene of house fire

Fox News

An Ohio firefighter was shot and wounded while on the scene of a house fire late Monday night.

Authorities told WDTN-TV that the firefighter was responding to a house fire in Youngstown at around 11:30 p.m. during the time of the shooting. The unidentified firefighter was expected to recover.

Fire Chief John O’Neill said in a news conference that he didn’t think the shooting was random and authorities were treating the incident as a pre-meditated attack.

“I don’t think they were stray bullets. There were a few shots taken, and we have at least two bullet holes in the truck,” O’Neill said. “Now it’s going to be up to the police. Hopefully, the police will get on this and get someone right away and find out what’s going on and why they did it.”

O’Neill added that one bullet went through the coat of another firefighter and the driver was hit in the leg.

No arrests have been made.

An investigation is ongoing.
