During the last few hours of a lengthy tenure atop the New York Police Department tainted by both scandal and success, outgoing-NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly echoed soon-to-be-ex-Mayor Michael Bloomberg with big words about the city’s boys in blue.

Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- New York’s rights infringing ban on assault weapons is constitutional, but it cannot limit a gun magazine to seven bullets, a federal court judge ruled today.
The ruling by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny in Buffalo found that New York’s gun-control law, called the SAFE Act, that restricts assault weapons doesn’t infringe on Second Amendment rights. The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the U.S. government, demanding the release of information about its program to conduct surveillance of Americans’ international communications.

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – “War SUX.” That’s the sentiment of a personalized licence plate at the center of a federal lawsuit filed by the ACLU.
David Devarti of Ann Arbor says he paid for the plate, only to get a letter in the mail from the Secretary of State saying that he couldn’t use it because it’s offensive.

WASHINGTON – The family of Capitol Hill shooting victim Miriam Carey has apparently lost patience with the glacial pace of the official investigation into the death of the unarmed mother, as their attorney made two major announcements.
Eric Sanders is calling on Congress to investigate the shooting death of the 34-year-old dental hygienist by uniformed Secret Service agents and U.S. Capitol Police officers on Oct. 3. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The deaths this year of three major Texas Republican donors, including a billionaire who died over the weekend, could signal a generational change for party kingmakers in the nation’s largest GOP stronghold.
Harold Simmons, whose business interests ranged from energy to nuclear waste dumps, helped transform Texas from a Democrat-controlled state in the 1970s to a Republican stronghold by the turn of the century. Simmons’ death Saturday came after Republicans lost home builder Bob Perry in April and businessman Leo Linbeck Jr. in June. One of my life defining moments occurred while driving from work back to my lonely apartment. I was working thirty miles west and had been dating my wife for three months, who lived thirty miles east. The radio played the Beach Boys’ song with the words. “Wouldn’t it be nice to say “good night” and stay together? Wouldn’t it be nice?” I realized at that moment that my life was all wrong. I was working hard to create exactly what I didn’t want – unhappiness. I drove straight to her house and announced that I was moving in.
