Pleasant Hill, Calif. City Council Defies Zoning Panel Bans Legal Gun Shops

NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- Despite overwhelming public opposition, the Pleasant Hill City Council this past week approved amending a city zoning ordinance banning where law-abiding, federally licensed firearms and ammunition retailers can operate.

In passing the anti-gun zoning changes, the City Council defied Pleasant Hill’s own Planning Commission, which a month earlier voted unanimously against adopting any new zoning restrictions designed to put FFLs out of business.  

Under the city’s new firearms and zoning ordinances, FFLs must obtain a police permit to do business, new FFL’s are prohibited from operating within certain distances of homes, schools, public parks and certain other businesses and both must comply with onerous performance standards.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) maintains that the City cannot right a wrong by first improperly passing its firearms ordinance containing the zoning restrictions without the Commission’s full review and now asking the Commission to approve the changes based on false and incomplete information.

The NSSF on behalf of its members will continue to pursue its lawsuit against the Pleasant Hill City Council to block enforcement of these unnecessary and overly burdensome ordinances that violate California and local law and will do nothing to make Pleasant Hill a safer city.
