1-29-15 – The Senate Judiciary Committee today continued to hear testimony in the confirmation hearing for Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch. One of the witnesses was ex-CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson, who used her speaking time to slam the Obama White House and Justice Department for its treatment of the press.
She touted some of the critically-praised work she’s done and how the White House has targeted her as a result. Attkisson claimed there was a “frenzied campaign” to chill reporting by her and others critical of the administration, even “using surrogate bloggers to advance false claims.” (Probably talking about Media Matters here.)
She also threw out this dire warning about any journalist who writes anything critical of the White House:
“If you cross this administration with perfectly accurate reporting they don’t like, you will be attacked and punished. You and your sources may be subjected to the kind of surveillance devised for enemies of the state.”
