So it is ok to release “Stuxnet” but it is not ok to attack Sony Mr. Obama?

Cyberwar Zone

The current status between North Korea and The United States is not very good. The North Koreans have been by the United States after President Obama stated that North Korea was behind the attacks on Sony. Let’s take a look back, 3 years to be exact.

It was on the first of June 2012 that The New York times published a post about how Obama ordered various waves of cyber attacks against Iran. In the article it becomes clear that the creation of the Stuxnet virus was a collaboration between The United States and Israel.

The New York times stated the following in the 2012 post:

Mr. Obama decided to accelerate the attacks — begun in the Bush administration and code-named Olympic Games — even after an element of the program accidentally became public in the summer of 2010 because of a programming error that allowed it to escape Iran’s Natanz plant and sent it around the world on the Internet. Computer security experts who began studying the worm, which had been developed by the United States and Israel, gave it a name: Stuxnet.

In that time of “cyberwar” there was not a single sanction assigned to The United States, instead the United States created multiple sanctions against Iranian companies and government organs which worked with The United States.

But if we take a look at the current situation, we can clearly see that some big questions still remain unanswered:

  • Who has hacked Sony
  • Who demanded the attack on Sony
  • How was the information accessed
  • How did the aggressors know where to search

But hey, instead of searching for answers the president of the United States has stated that North Korea was responsible for the “crippling” (WOW, Was it that crippling?!) cyber attacks on United States assets.

In the mean while the North Koreans have suffered the following “incidents“:

  • Internet blackout
  • Sanctions
  • Unable to view “The Interview” (This is done by Kim Jong-Un)

The hackers which hacked the Sony environment have not been captured or identified and there is no information if they will be identified in the coming future. I truly believe that the actions which are taken by the Obama administration will not have any positive effects for the coming periods.
