There are new allegations that chemical weapons have been used in Syria, this time near the capital Damascus in the Goutha region. As always, details about the alleged attack are unclear but there are suggestions that the nerve agent Sarin was used. Even estimates of the numbers killed vary wildly from dozens to more than 600. This video looks at the most recent attack and why there are always questions over the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Even the BBC were fairly sceptical of this maybe realising that this was pushing the “plausibility” a touch too far…
“Experts have expressed several reservations about what exactly the video footage shows and which weapons could have been used.
“At the moment, I am not totally convinced because the people that are helping them are without any protective clothing and without any respirators,” said Paula Vanninen, director of Verifin, the Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention.”

“Meanwhile Russia has said that there is evidence that the attack was the work of the opposition. But the US and the UK say they do not believe the rebels have access to chemical weapons.”
Umm Iraq and Turkey both know they have access to Sarin and other nasties because they caught the “opposition” red handed, hand in the till, bang to rights with the bloody weapons and production facilities, which country was it that feigned ignorance when they knew damned well they had given Saddam Hussein VX gas? When he run amok and gassed all them Kurds and Iranians the US wondered nonchalantly with the rest of the world scratching their heads in mock puzzlement saying they didn’t know how Saddam got these terrible weapons from and what a bad boy he was for using them…
But this is the second time this has happened and no one believed it the first time either, I would point out that a dense barrage of simple smoke grenades would cause the most likely of symptoms shown and smoke inhalation is a serious killer, couple of white phosphorous grenades in the mix and people will die very quickly, no doubt about it but smoke grenades are classed as non lethal munitions which falls into the class of what the US, UK, France, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar have been pumping into the rebels armouries for some time.
