Cosponsor the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act of 2013
Dear [Decision Maker],
I urge you to cosponsor the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act of 2013 which would protect state marijuana laws from federal interference and eliminate federal enforcement against law-abiding citizens in states that have reformed their marijuana laws.
Several recent national polls have found that marijuana legalization is supported by a majority of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, independents, and moderate Republicans. And 72% of Americans believe that the government’s effort to enforce marijuana prohibition isn’t work the cost. Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have already legalized marijuana for medical use. Fifteen states have decriminalized marijuana for personal use. And Colorado and Washington voted to legalize and regulate marijuana like alcohol last November.
Respecting state marijuana laws will save taxpayer money, reduce racial disparities and decrease the violence of the illicit market.
