And these people are PROFESSIONAL WRITERS and JOURNALISTS!?! And just who the f*** is editing these people’s poorly written headlines and articles? AGAIN, THE ILLITERATES! We are headed for “Idiocracy” folks! “Ass” indeed!
And, if you think I’m joking about the destruction of the English language (since I’m a writer I do care about this, but anyway…), keep in mind George Orwell’s “1984” was in part about “the Party” destruction of the English language using “Newspeak.” When spelling and grammar are no longer taught in public schools (whereas proper English will always be taught in elite schools, right?) it means that any propagandist can write anything in any form and people who do not understand grammar especially will be led to believe whatever the “writer” wants them to believe because they won’t be able to analyze what is really being said. (see my screed above on that poor grammar article headline above).
As a 60s commercial once said– “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should” and someone criticizes the grammar saying it should be “as a cigarette should” and then someone else says this: “What do you want? Good grammar or good taste?”–I’ll take the grammar!
