Roger Hodgson (Supertramp lead singer & songwriter) wrote this hit when he was still in his teens, before he even met Rick and co-founded Supertramp. This classic is just as relevant today as it was when it was released. Roger won the Ivor Novello Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters for The Logical Song being named the best song both musically and lyrically. It also has the distinction of becoming one of the most quoted lyrics in schools.
The Logical Song is from the Breakfast in America album and on Roger’s new Classics Live CD. You can download a copy of The Logical Song at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/clas… or treat yourself to the DVD of this performancehttp://www.rogerhodgsonstore.com/cate…. Roger’s first ever DVD from one of his live solo concerts in Canada, “Take the Long Way Home — Live in Montreal,” went Platinum in just seven weeks and hit #1 in all of Canada and is now multi-Platinum and Gold in France and Germany.
Roger performs his songs in a variety of formats so you can see him at an acoustic show, band show or orchestra. I love them all.
Here’s what peoples say about his concerts:
“His voice is still in great shape, and I’d even say that his performance has gotten even better with the years. Always smiling, he looks like he’s gotten to a point in his life where he’s enjoying and living the moment.”
“There’s no other artist I can think of that can do what Roger can do- get up on stage with just one other guy and touch people like this. What Roger does is unique.”
“… what a magical show, Roger put Heart, Soul, and Voice into the word Musicianship. His performance left me stunned…gave me shivers and put tears in my eyes…”
The Roger Hodgson Store is the only place you can buy directly from the artist and get his autographed CD’s. Visithttp://www.RogerHodgsonStore.com

You beat to the posting of this song diggerdan. I heard it on the radio while driving to work on Wednesday but never got around to posting it. Meaningful song in a totally illogical world.
Great choice, digger. 🙂
I am very glad you guys like this song Angel and Inretrospect 😉 . I haven`t thought of this song in years
I swear to god that Roger Hodgson wrote this song to describe my life and that weird MK stuff from the 60`s
Besides them dr.s destroying my memory and trying to reprogram me – that never worked for them – I am finally getting my sh*t together after all these years
Yep, No foolin` 😉
Do you want me to post the lyrics for the Trenchers who weren’t around back then? (Like you, I know them by heart. 😉 )
Sure Angel. That would be great.
I think it is a awesome song 😉
Me, too. Always have. 🙂
🙂
You really didn’t need to post the lyrics, Angel… I can actually understand and make-out what is being said in this tune; unlike many pop/rock songs I’ve heard.
These are the lyrics from RodgerHodgson.com
The Logical Song
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily,
joyfully, oh, playfully, watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, oh, responsible, practical
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, oh, intellectual, cynical
There are times when all the world’s asleep,
The questions run too deep for such a simple man
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned?
I know it sounds absurd, but please tell me who I am?
I said now, watch what you say, they’ll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh, fanatical, criminal
Won’t you sign up your name?
We’d like to feel you’re acceptable, respectable,
oh, presentable, a vegetable!
Whoa, take it, take it, take it, yeah!
But at night, when all the world’s asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned?
(Won’t you help me?)
I know it sounds absurd,
(Please won’t you help me?)
But please tell me who I am,
who I am, who I am, who I am?
Yeah!
‘Cause I’m feeling so logical

Oh – ooh, yeah
It’s getting unbelievable
B-b-b-b-bloody marvelous
Thanks Angel. Ya know what Angel, I forgot how much I like this group. They just do not make them like they used to, and to think it was preformed by just two guys!! And Better yet Mr. Roger Hodgson wrote this song when he was just a teenager. The guy is a genious I think.
Thanks again Angel 😉
I really had hoped that Supertramp and Steely Dan would tour together but don’t know if they ever did or will in the future.
That realy would be a great tour package wouldn`t it Inretrospect 😉
Yes Digger now i remember. good post brother.
🙂 . Yes Paul I realy like this group.
Well, it looks like 4 people like Supertramp…somebody has to I suppose…
Is Metallica more to your taste? (Not being sarcastic. They have some songs I like.) Just curious. What’s your taste in lyrics and music?
.
This guy has more talent than most since he started writing misic but then again I guess it is a matter of taste and perhaps age group too.
Nothing wrong with that I guess
So DL, what is your music prefference if ya don`t mind me askin` as Angel did mention that to ya too about misic prefference. I like most music just some more than other misic.
Yep. No “Rap” or “Techno Dance Club.” PLEASE! LOL 🙂 😉
Send something in for posting, DL. 🙂
Nope, that techno and rap is out of my league too.
Yes Angel, kind of wondering what he likes too.
I try to spread my music choices around a bit as ya may have noticed. You post some really good stuff too Angel 😉
Paul posted that Jerry Lee Lewis post yesterday that I though was pretty good too.
Wonderful video of my favorite artist, Roger Hodgson, performing one of my all time favorites – The Logical Song. What timeless lyrics. Other favorites of mine from Roger are Give a Little Bit and Breakfast in America. I had the great fortune of seeing Roger live in concert last year and I can tell you that his show was phenomenal. I have never been to a better concert and I’ve seen just about anyone. Roger’s voice is incredible and his smile is contagious. I can’t wait to see him again in Chandler (20 miles from Phoenix), AZ on April 25. I have been counting the weeks. See Roger’s show. You will be so glad you did. In fact, the feel good feelings you walk away from the show with will stay with you for days, if not weeks.
This song holds so much validity added to the fact that this is the 35th anniversary of “Breakfast in America” where you find “The Logical Song and many other beloved gems.
Having the pleasure of experiencing Roger live I know from the moment he walks onto the stage with his band, the audience started to feel the spell he was weaving. For some it took several songs before they were started to feel the magic, others they had waited a long time to experience Roger live, and did he give them a performance. Roger was exceptionally light hearted and offered the his humorous side to the audience. It was easy to see how comfortable he was with his audience and they were with him and the band. All one had to do is close their eyes and hear the notes of the past but with this lineup much more vibrant and fresh, for Roger sounds better then ever!! Look for a performance close to you, travels as I did, to see Roger in action, it is worth every penny!! Be warned, you will want to feel his performances again and again……
With several US dates starting his 2014 tour, please check out his website for upcoming performances!
