Hypocrisy and politics go hand in hand. They are best friends, walking down the street, skipping and holding hands. Our society has evolved in such a way that politicians make grand statements, telling people how they should live their lives, while simultaneously doing the exact opposite in their own lives. It’s become such an ingrained part of society, we almost don’t even notice it anymore.
The best of the best when it comes to hypocrites is the Grand Dragon, Al Gore. He is truly a master when it comes to the art of “do as I say, not as I do.”
After losing the election in 2000, I suppose Gore felt like he needed to do something with his life. He proceeded to amp up his environmental crusade, making a film called An Inconvenient Truth. Despite the out-and-out lies pervading the film, it was a Hollywood success. The masses watched, believed, and joined the crusade. Meanwhile, as he advocates saving the planet, eliminating CO2 and global warming—s orry, climate change—he flies around in a private jet. Hypocrisy? I’d say so.
Now, Gore is at it again. According to The Week:
“The average iPhone uses more energy than a midsize refrigerator, says a new paper by Mark Mills, CEO of Digital Power Group, a tech investment advisory. A midsize refrigerator that qualifies for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star rating uses about 322 kW-h a year, while your iPhone uses about 361 kW-h if you stack up wireless connections, data usage, and battery charging.”
Guess what Al “do as I say” Gore just did? He bought millions of dollars of Apple stock.
Forbes:
“Two weeks after pulling down a reported $100 million from the sale of Current TV to the Qatar-based news network, the man so many love to hate is at it again, this time by exercising options entitling him to buy 59,000 Apple shares for the excellent price of $7.475 each.”
Defiling his earth saving name, Gore has upped his game as a hypocrite. What makes this so absurd is how much Al Gore preaches. There is “do as I say, not as I do,” and then there is “do as I obnoxiously and repeatedly preach, not as I do.” Gore is a big bag of wind with no sail to blow. He is floating, useless to the world, so he makes himself important. He raises himself up.
The most unfortunate bit about this situation is that everybody will just laugh about it. Oh, Al Gore, you weasel, you! Hypocrisy like Gore’s eats up our society, leaving nothing but a shell. It looks great on the outside, but the second you touch it, it collapses in on itself. The question is:
How long will it take for our hypocritical nation to collapse inward, leaving us nothing but, well, nothing.
