Hunting Ranches in Texas – For The Best Wild Hog & Boar Hunts in South TX

Your Texas hog hunting will consist of both spot and stalk hunting as well as hunting from blinds. During your spot and stalk hunting adventure, you will be tracking your game in native pecan bottoms, old oak forests, and among majestic mesquite trees. During times of plentyful rain, your game will be hiding in our deep native grasslands. You must always be prepared , as it is common to get within 5-10 feet of a pack of hogs hiding in the brush. Many hunters have brought back stories of walking up on 10-20 hogs and being so startled, they never raised their gun during the rush!

After dinner at sundown, you will be taken back into the interior of the ranch, for what some “not so brave souls” have called, a night of hair-raising action! Many nights are greeted by the sounds of howling coyotes from every possible direction. Bring your rifles, bring your pistols, and if all else fails, have your bowie knife ready! During your night hunt, you may see many exotic animals, but don’t get too entertained, because when the hogs move in, it can be fast and furious!

You will want to move your spotlight to the edge of the forest, as you never know what may be watching you! Not only do the big hogs move under the cover of night, but you never know what type of cat may be out on the prowl! Call them in, and take a trophy of a lifetime! On a quiet, windless night, many hunters have reported the forest to be as loud with wild game as a busy city street. More than a few hunters have lost their nerve to hunt the wilds of our moonlit wilderness! The record for lost nerve at night is but a short 20 minutes!

Reveille is about an hour before sunrise. this will give you time for a quick cup of coffee, and time to trade stories of your previous night’s adventure with your fellow hunters. During your spot and stalk, you will be back in the fields tracking your game. Early mornings are greeted with the bugling of the elk, or the distant cracking sounds of our trophy ram butting heads for dominance. During your morning adventure, you will encounter many species of trophy game, such as majestic axis and fallow deer, huge red stags, bison buffalo, and graceful Texas blackbuck, just to name a few. At this point, your hunt is only half-way through! If you think the first half of your hunt was awesome, wait until your second night! If you survived the first night, you may be ready for what awaits you in the darkest recesses of your second night’s adventure! Hunting after dark has produced some of the biggest trophies ever taken on the ranch!

For those that have survived up to the last morning, there is yet more to experience for those that want more. Ask about the “The Dead Mans Hunt”, and hear of some of the early settlers that never made it out alive! For those that must leave, checkout is on the third day, but for those that can stay, the next adventure is just over the next ridge!
