Turkey: Missiles Deployed Near Syrian Border

Turkey deployed Stinger and I-Hawk surface-to-air missiles in Hatay province’s Kirikhan district, along Turkey’s border with Syria, on Aug. 28, NOW News reported, citing Today’s Zaman. There have been reports of similar buildups in the region as expectations for a U.S. strike against Syria continue to grow.
Israel: Government Approves Partial Call-up Of Reserve Soldiers

The Israeli Security Cabinet has issued a partial call-up of reserve soldiers ahead of a possible U.S. strike against Syria, which many have warned would result in a retaliatory attack against Israel, AP and Times of Israel reported Aug. 28. The move came just hours after Israel Defense Forces reportedly deployed additional Iron Dome batteries, Arrow defense systems and Patriot missile defense batteries near the Syrian border.

U.S. officials fear that the Syrian regime will use chemical weapons in Aleppo if the international community fails to respond quickly, The Wall Street Journal reported Aug. 28. The United States is considering strike plans to deter or prevent the further use of chemical weapons by the regime.

Syrian regime officials are evacuating strategic facilities in anticipation of a Western strike on military targets, the Times of Israel reported Aug. 28, citing Al Arabiya. New facilities are being set up in nearby secret locations and alternative sites, such as schools.

Syria: Al Assad Allegedly In Tehran, Report Says

There are unconfirmed reports that Syrian President Bashar al Assad headed to Tehran with his family members the evening of Aug. 27, according to Egyptian El-Nahar TV. According to Iranian state television, an Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry source said al Assad’s plane landed in Tehran’s Khomeini Airport.
