The first time I heard Henry read this Tench Coxe quote, many years ago, it was a most empowering moment for me. I did indeed see this as my ‘birthright’: to be as equipped as ANY other to defend myself and all that I cherish, and even to be MORE equipped. And in that moment I knew, I am the militia!! I, along with all others committed to self-determinism and freedom. Tench must have known that many see the control-machine as insurmountable, huge, overbearing, so he wrote those words to level the playing field, level it and then actually give an advantage to the people. What a great gift he left.
