You’ll Never Guess Who Homeland Security Considers A Terrorist Threat…

A recently released internal document shows what type of group Homeland Security believes poses a serious cyber terrorism threat. The lengthy report was intended for “Trusted Agents Only” and included information the agency stipulated could be “disseminated only on a need-to-know basis.”

The entire document was leaked, however; and a passage near the very end reveals a training exercise that might explain the perceived need for such stringent secrecy. According to directives, even those directly involved in the mission were not to be allowed access to the files.

The passage in question sought to counter an attack by a group known as ‘Free Americans against Socialist Tyranny,’ which, according to the detailed scenario, is planning a cyber-attack in response to the federal government’s implementation of martial law.

Members of the fictionalized group, obviously crafted to resemble a growing number of pro-freedom movements in the U.S., “advertise anti-U.S. rhetoric focusing on the Department of Defense as well as to recruit like-minded individuals to join their ‘cause,’” the document warns.

Not only is the Department of Homeland Security apparently worried about the actions of those who oppose a police state; the exercise includes a passage regarding “the greatest threat” posed by the group.

“It is believed that there are employees within US Northern Command, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, National Guard, and Defense Information Systems Agency that may support Free Americans against Socialist Tyranny doctrine based on individual comments on social media sites,” the document continues. “Free Americans against Social Tyranny sympathizers may include both former and current members of the military with training on satellite communications, computer network defense, network operations, as well as military command and control.”

For the agency tasked with protecting Americans from terrorists following the 9/11 attacks, DHS seems inordinately concerned with the speculative risk inherent in conservative groups only concerned with protecting the U.S. Constitution.

A previous department study defined the “extreme right-wing” as those “suspicious of centralized federal authority” and “reverent of individual liberty,” indicating those who identify with these traits pose a risk to their own country. Unfortunately, individuals who hold what previous generations considered American values are now identified by our government as potential terrorists.

  1. War games. There’s virtually nothing else it can be called.

“Unfortunately, individuals who hold what previous generations considered American values are now identified by our government as potential terrorists.”

Unfortunately for who, us or them? Seems to me there’s a helluva lot more of us than there are of them.

They’ve got damn good reason to be very afraid.
