Most people tend to dispose of the egg shells once they are done with cooking the eggs.

However, by throwing them in the trash, you will be deprived of many health benefits.

As a matter of fact, egg shells are probably the best natural source of calcium and it is easier for the body to digest and absorb. Egg shells are healthy and balanced calcium, thanks to the trace amounts of other minerals.

Namely, the calcium found in egg shells is the same calcium which our bones and teeth are made of. Not only is calcium needed for healthy bones, it is needed for the muscles and nerves as well.

As mentioned above, the powder from egg shells is easily absorbed and this is confirmed by several studies conducted in the US National Institutes of Health. In addition, it reduces blood pressure, lowers cholesterol levels, and of course, it strengthens the bones.

Only half a tablespoon of eggs shells powder provides about 90 percent of the recommended daily intake for an adult, as it contains about 1000-1,500 mg calcium.

SIMPLE WAY TO USE THE EGGS SHELLS

  • First, boil the eggs for about ten minutes in order to eliminate the detrimental bacteria.
  • Let them cool.
  • Crush them so that you get a powder.
  • Store the powder in a previously sterilized jar.

      Use up your eggs as you normally would, keeping the shell in the carton to make your supplement
      When you have your dozen shells, rinse them well in water. Remove any whites that might be stuck but don’t remove membrane as these have extra nutrients.
      Fill a stock pot with approximately 6 cups of filtered water and bring to a boil.
      Carefully put your eggshells into water. (This will kill any harmful pathogens)
      Let cook for 10 minutes.
      Drain shells.
      Spread the shells on glass or stainless steel baking sheet and let dry overnight. In the morning, put in a 200 degree (Fahrenheit) oven for about 10 minutes to completely dry out.
      Once completed, put a few shells into a coffee grinder and run until they are pulverized into a granular form. Continue until all of your shells are powder.
      Store in a tightly sealed Mason jar in the cupboard away from heat or moisture.”

      (At home we used to add it to the food for young birds if the parents didn’t want to take care of their young. We didn’t do the sterilizing tho.)
