U.S. Representative Michael Grimm of New York pleaded guilty to a federal felony tax charge on Tuesday, seven weeks after coasting to reelection despite his indictment.

The U.S. economy grew at its quickest pace in 11 years in the third quarter, the strongest sign yet that growth has decisively shifted into higher gear.
The economy appears to have sustained some of the momentum in the fourth quarter. Other data on Tuesday showed consumer spending rose solidly in November, which could offset an unexpected weakness in durable goods orders. PORTLAND, Ore. – The three suspects in the shooting outside a North Portland alternative high school earlier this month were charged with attempted murder on Tuesday, police said.
The Friday, Dec. 12 shooting at Rosemary Anderson High School injured four students. All four victims survived the shooting.

Three unrelated attacks across France over the last three days left more than 20 people injured, prompting Prime Minister Manuel Valls to ask citizens to remain calm.

Labor statistics show that foreign-born workers account for all net gains in U.S. employment in the past seven years, according to a group that advocates low immigration.
The Center for Immigration Studies issued a report Friday that found 1.5 million fewer U.S.-born workers employed in 2014 than prior to the recession in 2007. Foreign-born employment for both legal and illegal immigrants increased by more than 2 million workers during the same time period. A Dover man wielding a BB gun was fatally shot by police Sunday morning, according to the Dover Police Department.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, Dover police received information from a crisis center noting James Long, 52 of Dover, had indicated suicidal thoughts and a plan to commit “suicide by cop,” according to authorities.

AUBURN, Calif. (AP) — A man who barricaded himself inside a Northern California home has died after firing over 100 rounds in a gunbattle with police.
The Placer County Sheriff’s office says the house started to burn several hours into Sunday’s standoff near Auburn, and that the man was killed by officers around 4 p.m.

Pinellas County, Florida — The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the Tarpon Springs Police Department are investigating the shooting of a police officer that took place early Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on December 21, at Glen’s Eureka Apartments on Grand Boulevard in Tarpon Springs. Police were originally called out for a noise ordinance complaint as the suspect was banging on residential doors. WILLOW CREEK, Calif. (AP) — A California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a 17-year-old who attacked him with a machete, and the officer was hospitalized with major injuries, officials said.

Quite often i find uninformed bloggers, well-meaning patriotic Americans, and even the mainstream media drawing parallels between the political climate of Hitler’s Germany and that of the United States at present. 1 2 3 While there are similarities, the context in which those policies are rooted could not be more at odds; while Nazi Germany was a fascist, police-state dictatorship, similar to what the U.S. is descending toward today 4 5 6, it is quite clear that the ideology driving the politics in Germany was intended to avoid the same sort of tyranny, corruption and moral erosion which the people of the U.S. and elsewhere find themselves battling today.
