Two civil rights groups have sued the state of Mississippi for alleged human rights abuses at one of the state’s for-profit prisons.

SINGAPORE/TOKYO, May 30 (Reuters) – A strain of genetically modified wheat found in the United States fuelled concerns over food supplies across Asia on Thursday, with major importer Japan cancelling a tender offer to buy U.S. grain.

Discovery of illegal genetically-engineered wheat growing in an Eastern Oregon field may cause severe marketing and export problems for one of the state’s biggest crops.

State agriculture department Director Katy Coba said 85 to 90 percent of the Pacific Northwest’s soft white wheat crop is exported to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and other nations, where it’s used to make noodles and crackers. FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A grandfather checking on his neighbor is shot and killed by Fort Worth police. The shots rang out early Tuesday morning near Woodhaven Country Club, in east Fort Worth.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Dr. Michael Ciampi took a step this spring that many of his fellow physicians would describe as radical.

The family physician stopped accepting all forms of health insurance. In early 2013, Ciampi sent a letter to his patients informing them that he would no longer accept any kind of health coverage, both private and government-sponsored.
