SAN FRANCISCO – Angela Stark waited in line for nearly two hours at the San Francisco Department of Human Services office to hand over her Medi-Cal application. She then waited another hour before an enrollment worker interviewed her to see if she was eligible.

Just three weeks shy of her 22nd birthday, Stark had been uninsured since aging out of foster care at age 18.    Continue reading “Medi-Cal Covers Foster Youth Till Age 26, But Few Know It”

When Janet Yellen appeared before the House Financial Services Committee February 11, she gave relaxed answers to most questions. But two members of Congress that day touched a nerve when they each grilled the newly confirmed chairman of the privately owned and controlled Federal Reserve on the merits of former Texas maverick Representative Ron Paul’s bill to audit the Fed.

Mrs. Yellen was also scheduled to address the Senate Banking Committee February 13 as part of her twice yearly report to Congress, but it was postponed.   Continue reading “New Fed Chairman Angrily Rejects Central Bank Audit”

BBC News – by Alastair Leithead

While historic winter storms have battered much of the US, California is suffering its worst drought on record. So why is America’s most valuable farming state using billions of gallons of water to grow hay – specifically alfalfa – which is then shipped to China?

The reservoirs of California are just a fraction of capacity amid the worst drought in the state’s history.

“This should be like Eden right now,” farmer John Dofflemyer says, looking out over a brutally dry, brown valley as his remaining cows feed on the hay he’s had to buy in to keep them healthy.   Continue reading “California drought: Why farmers are ‘exporting water’ to China”

U.S. Drought Monitor California February 11 2014The Economic Collapse – by Michael Snyder

Did you know that the U.S. state that produces the most vegetables is going through the worst drought it has ever experienced and that the size of the total U.S. cattle herd is now the smallest that it has been since 1951?  Just the other day, a CBS News article boldly declared that “food prices soar as incomes stand still“, but the truth is that this is only just the beginning.  If the drought that has been devastating farmers and ranchers out west continues, we are going to see prices for meat, fruits and vegetables soar into the stratosphere.  Already, the federal government has declared portions of 11 states to be “disaster areas”, and California farmers are going to leave half a million acres sitting idle this year because of the extremely dry conditions.  Sadly, experts are telling us that things are probably going to get worse before they get better (if they ever do).  As you will read about below, one expert recently told National Geographic that throughout history it has been quite common for that region of North America to experience severe droughts that last for decades.  In fact, one drought actually lasted for about 200 years.  So there is the possibility that the drought that has begun in the state of California may not end during your entire lifetime.   Continue reading “15 Reasons Why Your Food Bill Is Going To Start SOARING”
