There are a lot of reasons that sensible people want to step off  of the materialistic rocket ride that is the standard North American Christmas.

  • They may be tired of spending the entire following year working overtime because they are deep in debt for having produced a spectacular Christmas morning that was the stuff of storybooks.
  • Maybe they don’t want to create children who are never satisfied and always want more, who always yearn for that next edition of the iGadget of the year.
  • Perhaps they have suffered their own personal economic collapse and just can’t afford it this year.  They might just want a sense of peace and contentment that you can never buy from a store.

Reusuable Menstrual Pads to be Subject to $4000 a Year in Extortion FeesThe Organic Prepper

Well, our good friends at the FDA are looking out for us again. Thank goodness we have them to fine us, charges us fees, regulate perfectly natural things, and keep us safe.  Heck, who knew that women couldn’t even safely menstruate without them?

The FDA has decided that reusable menstrual pads are Class I Medical Devices. That means those who manufacture these products must pay an annual fee of THREE TO FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS to continue doing so.  Not only must these ladies armed with sewing machines pay taxes on their income, they must pay a fealty charge to the FDA to continue making a living this way. FDA Regulation #884.5435 states that a reusable menstrual pad maker must be “FDA compliant” – which means they must pay a yearly registration fee of $3,646 to remain in business for 2015 and a fee of $3,872 for 2016.   Continue reading “The FDA Gets in Women’s Panties: Reusuable Menstrual Pads to be Subject to $4000 a Year in Extortion Fees”

I’m very excited to introduce my new book, The Organic Canner. The book has been 3 years in the making, and those years were filled with measuring, adjusting, tasting, and testing the recipes out on my children.  It contains 242 pages of information, how-tos, and delicious recipes.  I wrote this to help provide an alternative to our dependence on the grocery store, with its toxic, chemical-laden faux food.

The instructions are written with the beginning canner in mind, and USDA guidelines are strictly adhered to for maximum safety. The recipes cover a broad scope: everything from jams and salsas to full meals that only need to be heated up.  Nearly every page has a charming sketch, lending to the book’s old-fashioned charm.   Continue reading “The Organic Canner: A Guide to Preserving Real Food”

CDC says flu shot might workThe Organic Prepper

You know how the propaganda machine loves to crank up the push on flu shots every year. Well, this year’s batch is so ineffective even the notoriously dishonest optimistic CDC and pro-Pharma mainstream sources can’t tell you that you’re protected with a straight face.

The Center for Disease Control (and Big Pharma Pimp Extraordinaire) released an advisory yesterday letting us know that the vaccine is not really a very good match to the flu circulating this year. (The emphasis below is mine).   Continue reading “CDC Health Advisory: Get Your Flu Shot. It “Might” Work This Year. Sort Of.”

James Wesley Rawles. The name is synonymous with “survival” and in his book Expatriates: A Novel of the Coming Global Collapse he continues providing the same reliable information we’ve come to expect from his previous books.

Expatriates takes place in different settings across the world in the aftermath of a global economic collapse.  One thing that is very timely, considering the recent activities of ISIS, is an Indonesian Muslim attack on Australia and the Philipines, where we find several displaced American characters. Meanwhile, in the USA, a family in Florida struggles to survive and to help protect their small town against those desperate souls who would pillage it.   Continue reading “Book Review: Expatriates, by James Wesley Rawles”

This is why we are armedThe Organic Prepper

It’s important to prep. You probably already know this, or you wouldn’t be here, reading an article on a site like this.  You know that you need a stockpile of food, fuel, medical supplies and other necessities.

But just as important as those so-called “beans and band-aids” is the ability to protect it.  That’s where the “bullets” come in.   Continue reading “Black Friday and the Ferguson Riots: This is Why We Are Armed”

The day after Thanksgiving, most people’s refrigerators are so full with leftovers that getting to door shut requires the family engineer to play Tupperware Jenga with all of the containers of food. Inevitably, in many households, much of the leftovers go to waste after the 10th turkey sandwich in a row.  In this economy, none of us can afford to let anything go to waste, however. There’s a lot more you can do with those leftovers besides referring to your book of 101 Ways to Make a Turkey Sandwich. The preserving goes way past turkey – there are lots of tasty ways to preserve your other leftovers too.   Continue reading “Pad Your Pantry: How to Preserve Your Thanksgiving Leftovers”

The Environmental Protection Agency is a federal agency that is charged with the responsibility of writing and enforcing legislation to protect human health and the environment.  Established under Nixon in 1970, the EPA is another one of those agencies that sounds like a good idea, until you peel off the shiny friendly top layer to discover the stench of corruption underneath. Up until now, they at least pretended to be there to serve as watchdogs, but it seems like they’ve decided to give up on that silly illusion.

Since they are looking after all things environmental, they need unbiased specialists to advise them on policies and issues.   Continue reading “Bill Passed: EPA Must Only Take Advice from Industry Shills, NOT from Independent Scientists”

What’s the most controversial topic at the grocery store these days?

It’s GMOs.

Should you consume them? Are they okay in moderation? Should you strictly avoid them at all times? And if so, how on earth can you manage to navigate the store without stepping into a genetically modified landmine? And if you really want to challenge yourself, how can you do that on a budget?   Continue reading “How to Avoid GMOs When You’re on a Budget”

Things are about to get real in Ferguson, Missouri, regardless of the decision of the Grand Jury in the Michael Brown case.

So real, in fact, that the governor of Missouri has already declared a State of Emergency and called in the National Guard.

So real, in fact, that at least some of the local cops believe citizens need to arm themselves, because they know they won’t be able to protect them from the chaos that is sure to ensue.   Continue reading “Ferguson Cop Advises Residents to Get a Gun: “We will not be able to protect you or your family””

Maybe You Are Not Gluten Intolerant. Maybe You Are Poison Intolerant. The Organic Prepper

Over the past couple of years, I had the unpleasant experience of having bloodwork done to confirm that I am gluten intolerant, only to have it come back and say, “Nope, you’re just crazy.”

The same thing happened to my good friend Melissa Melton, who was terribly ill before she cut wheat out of her life.

It’s happened to scores of other people, who pass the test for the anti-gliadin antibodies but still know that their health issues directly correlate with what they eat.   Continue reading “Maybe You Aren’t Actually Gluten Intolerant. Maybe You’re Just Poison Intolerant.”

45 More Signs That You Might Be One of Those Crazy PreppersThe Organic Prepper – by Daisy Luther

A while back, I wrote an article called “30 Signs That You’re One of Those Crazy Preppers.”  Lots of readers got into the spirit of things, since it was pretty darned relatable.  We all know these are actually signs of sanity, but we’re used to being misunderstood by the unprepared and sometimes it’s fun to have a good laugh about their misconceptions of what we actually do.

Then Ebola happened, here on American soil, and a lot more people jumped on board the preparedness bandwagon.  To welcome the newbies, here are 45 MORE signs that you might have crossed over to the “prepped side.”  (Many of these came straight from the readers!)    Continue reading “45 MORE Signs That You Might Be One of Those Crazy Preppers”

How to Build a Safe Room in Your House or ApartmentThe Organic Prepper

The homes of many rich, famous people have a secret hidden within them.  Somewhere, in the depths of the home, is a secure room to which the residents can retreat in the event of a home invasion or violent intruder.  A safe room was carved into the original house plan, and many of these are state of the art.  Features might include a bank of monitors for viewing what’s going on outside the room, a small kitchenette, comfortable furnishings, fresh air venting, and a hardened communications system.  These expertly designed rooms can cost tens of thousands of dollars, but you don’t have to be a movie star or a multi-millionaire to build your own version of a safe room. Even the most humble home or apartment can have on a place to which vulnerable family members can retreat if they are under threat.   Continue reading “How to Create a Safe Room in Your House or Apartment”

99 Healthy Meals and Snacks for People Who Cannot CookThe Organic Prepper

The most common excuses I hear when people tell my why they can’t eat healthy, non-GMO food is that they “can’t” cook or that they “don’t have time” to cook.

It’s a sad disservice that our schools have decided that home economics class is no longer necessary. Whether you are male or female, the ability to put together a nourishing, tasty meal on a budget can’t be overrated. We’ve all got to eat, right?  My kids have been cooking since they were 9 years old.  (Uh-oh, someone call the child abuse hotline! She’s making her children slave over a hot stove!)   Continue reading “99 Healthy Meals and Snacks for People Who Can’t Cook”

The-Gold-Rush-For-Medical-Marijuana-Licensing-In-IllinoisMedical Marijuana Blog

What’s more popular in Illinois these days – the new iPhone 6 or the demand for medical marijuana dispensary licenses? That’s more of a rhetorical question than a “real” one; don’t bother wrapping your head around it. The deadline to apply for dispensary licensesunder the state’s Medical Cannabis Pilot Program has passed couple of weeks ago and state officials were completely unprepared for the gallop of last-minute applicants (like they didn’t know how timely the stoners of the world are!). Not to mention the crazy load of paperwork and a non-refundable $5,000 application fee, which probably made every entrepreneurial pothead in Illinois procrastinate even more than usually. Program officials called the applications “voluminous.” That is how officials give estimates these days.   Continue reading “The Gold Rush For Medical Marijuana Licensing In Illinois”
