Judge: Yes, You Can Serve Legal Papers Over FacebookGizmodo

It used to be that, when you wanted to slap someone with a lawsuit, you’d have to hunt them down the old-fashioned way—on foot, just like mom used to do. But now, a Family Court official has ruled for the very first time in the United States (it’s already common practice in Europe) that yes, you can indeed serve legal papers over Facebook.

The ruling came after a Staten Island man had been (unsuccesfully) attempting to serve his ex-wife with a legal notice declaring his decision to stop paying child support. When the man’s ex-wife continued to evade him, he decided that there’s no reason her “active social media account with Facebook” shouldn’t count as legal contact. Apparently, the judge agreed. According to lawyer Michael Stutman, head of family law at Mishcon de Reya in Manhattan:   Continue reading “Judge: Yes, You Can Serve Legal Papers Over Facebook”

The Dreyse needle-gun, first produced 173 years ago, is the mother of all bolt-action rifles.Bearing Arms – by Bob Owens

Now two separate gun control groups are attempting to restrict access to them.   Continue reading “And Then They Came For The Bolt-Actions”

The debate about military gear being provided for free to U.S. police forces continues. Critics warn that the Pentagon’s program which has provided more than $5 billion worth of military equipment to civilian police forces since 1990 has further fueled the “militarization” of police. The equipment has included everything from MRAPS to sniper rifles to medical kits and helicopters.

In Canada, the flow of equipment is much less – mainly confined to armoured personnel carriers.   Continue reading “Why would police need 12,000 bayonets?”

Officers and soldiers in the IDF’s largest, and most elite intelligence unit, known as 8200, addressed a letter to the prime minister Friday, in which the 43 signatories said that they refuse to take part in action against Palestinians or, “to be tools to deepen the military regime in the occupied territories.”

It was unclear in the letter if the soldiers were refusing to follow specific orders they felt to be immoral, or if they intended not to appear for duty at all. Either action could potentially result in court martial and time in military jail.   Continue reading “IDF intelligence soldiers refuse to serve: We won’t work against innocent Palestinians”
