Reports from the Honduras-Guatemala border shows large groups of migrants illegally pushing past security personnel. Despite the threat of COVID-19, the migrants forced their way across the border.
A tweet released by New York Times video correspondent Brent McDonald shows a “large caravan of Central American migrants fleeing pandemic-induced poverty” pushing their way past Guatemalan border security officials. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began issuing coronavirus-prevention guidelines for the holiday season Monday, instructing Americans on how to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19 in the final months of 2020.
According to the CDC, Americans would be best off having a “virtual Thanksgiving” with their families, staying away from large gatherings, and having “small meals” at home, while connecting with parents and grandparents over the Internet. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will conduct a series of immigration enforcement operations in three sanctuary cities as soon as this week, according to the Washington Post.
The enforcement actions, informally known as the “sanctuary op,” will first target illegal immigrants in California, followed by Denver and Philadelphia according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. For many years the security framework in the Middle East has been described as a bilateral arrangement whereby Washington gained access to sufficient Saudi Arabian oil to keep the energy market stable while the United States provided an armed physical presence through its bases in the region and its ability to project power if anyone should seek to threaten the Saudi Kingdom. The agreement was reportedly worked out in a February 1945 meeting between President Franklin D. Roosevelt and King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud, just as World War 2 was drawing to a close. That role as protector of Saudi Arabia and guarantor of stable energy markets in the region later served as part of the justification for the U.S. ouster of the Iraqi Army from Kuwait in 1991.

British grocery chains Tesco and Morrisons have started rationing essential items over fears that stricter lockdown measures will send shoppers into a panic.
Supermarkets limited sales of certain goods earlier in the pandemic, and Morrisons became the first major grocer to reintroduce these measures when it said on Thursday that customers could only buy three of certain products. These included pasta, soup, hand wash, and hand sanitizer, as well as multipacks of toilet paper and kitchen roll.
