Venezuela’s food shortage is so bad the country is mandating that people scan their fingerprints at grocery stores in order to keep people from buying too much of a single item.

President Nicolas Maduro says a mandatory fingerprinting system is being implemented at grocery stores to combat food shortages. He calls it an “anti-fraud system” like the fingerprint scan the country uses for voting.   Continue reading “Venezuela Will Begin Fingerprinting Grocery Shoppers To Control How Much Food They Buy”

WASHINGTON, Aug 20 2014 (IPS) – The U.S. and Brazilian governments are moving into the final stages of weighing approval for the commercialisation of genetically engineered eucalyptus trees, moves that would mark the first such permits anywhere in the world.

The Brazilian government is slated to start taking public comments on such a proposal during the first week of September. Similarly, U.S. regulators have been working on an environmental impact assessment since early last year, a highly anticipated draft of which is expected to be released any day.   Continue reading “U.S., Brazil Nearing Approval of Genetically Engineered Trees”

Recent studies have shown that police are held almost completely unaccountable by the current systems of governmental oversight. Perhaps this is the reason why you are 9 times more likely to be killed by a law enforcement officer than a terrorist. Rather than wait for bloated bureaucracy or corrupt government to save the day, we as activists have to find our own solutions. Technology is one of these solutions.

As we have seen, the violent crackdown on independent journalism in Ferguson is a sign of a worsening situation in much of America. More than ever, each citizen needs to become a member of the media and record everything that they see during encounters with the police. The immediate problem in Ferguson, MO has to do with the potential of martial law being called there. A few days ago, I thought, “well, that’s obviously what they want!” However, since then, I’ve paid attention to what leaders in the UN are saying and, as it turns out, I’m thinking martial law is only a step on the ladder. The final step may well be giving the UN permission to insert itself into the situation in Ferguson so that they will be able to call the shots with the Obama administration. I wrote about that and the article – Ultimate Gameplan: Obama Defers to United Nations to Remove America’s Sovereignty – on another site.

With no Instagram #selfie image or YouTube clip as proof (yet), The White House issued a statement proclaiming that today, in violation of its previous commitments and international law, Russian military vehicles painted to look like civilian trucks forced their way into Ukraine…and that Russia has no right to send vehicles, persons, or cargo of any kind into Ukraine, whether under the guise of humanitarian convoys or any other pretext, without the express permission of the government of Ukraine. Furthermore, the actions “only amplifies international concerns about Russia’s true intentions…for which it will bear additional consequences.” If that sternly-worded email was not enough, President Obam took time away from the course on Martha’s Vineyard to chat with Angela Merkel and then issued a joint statement somewhat sheepishly noting that this is “further provocation” and represents a “dangerous escalation.”   Continue reading “White House Accuses Russia Of Painting Military Vehicles White; Merkel Agrees “Actions Represent Dangerous Escalation””

FERGUSON, Mo. – As darkness fell Thursday night, the few blocks of this St. Louis suburb that became the scene of nightly, often violent protests was calm as public officials milled about, assuring residents parallel investigations would reveal the circumstances of the fatal shooting of black teen Michael Brown by a white police officer.

It appeared many of the public figures were bracing the community for the possibility that Officer Darren Wilson would not be charged with murder as evidence continued to mount that he was attacked and severely beaten by Brown only minutes after the teen robbed a convenience store Aug. 9.   Continue reading “Officials brace Ferguson for exoneration of officer”

Drugs to transform individuals…and even, by implication, society.

Focus on the network evening news. This is where the staging is done well.

First, we have the image itself, the colors in foreground and background, the blend of restful and charged hues. The anchor and his/her smooth style.

Then we have the shifting of venue from the studio to reporters in the field, demonstrating the reach of coverage: the planet. As if this equals authenticity.   Continue reading “Every television newscast is staged reality”
