Posting memes, remixes, and other similar content could soon be banned from the web in the European Union, according to critics who are speaking out against a recently proposed copyright law.

The law, known as the “Copyright Directive,” will be voted on later this month by the European Parliament, and lawmakers suggest that this will protect content creators in the internet age. However, one of the primary reasons why the internet age has brought us so much innovation and novelty is because of the fact that such a large aggregate of people are able to share their ideas and build upon the ideas of others to create something uniquely special.  Continue reading “New Copyright Law Could Make Current and Future Internet Memes Illegal to Share”

An “assault weapons” ban failed to pass a Delaware Senate committee last week but Senate President Pro Tempore David McBride (D-13) says he will bring it to whole Senate for a vote anyway.

The ban failed to pass a five member committee last week after Sen. Greg Lavelle (R-4) voted against it, citing concerns that it violates Delaware’s constitution. That includes AR-15s and related guns, but also goes far beyond them.   Continue reading “‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Fails in Delaware Committee, Senate Leader Bringing Up for Vote Anyway”

A controversial bill that criminalizes filming IDF soldiers has been advanced by an Israeli government committee. The Israeli Attorney General, however, said it would not withstand a constitutional review in its current form.

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation, which determines the coalition government’s position on all pending bills, has green-lighted the legislation, which envisages penalties of up to five years in prison for anyone filming or publishing footage showing Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) with an aim to “harm [soldiers’] spirits.” It is to be debated in the parliament this week. However, Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit said he considers the bill to be “problematic” from a legal point of view, adding that he would not be able to defend it in court.   Continue reading “Nothing to see here! An immigration compromise deal rolled out by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) would give amnesty to a foreign population that is nearly three times the size of President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The “Border Security and Immigration Reform Act,” a copy of which Breitbart News has obtained, would go beyond giving amnesty to the nearly 800,000 illegal aliens who are enrolled in DACA. An amnesty for just DACA-enrolled illegal aliens would be enforceable and manageable, as those nationals are already in the federal immigration system.

In a somewhat surprising but not entirely unpredictable turn, President Trump has authorized new funding for the White Helmets which had previously been put on hold.

A State Department press release puts the initial funding figure at $6.6 million to continue what it calls “the vital, life-saving operations of the Syrian Civil Defense, more commonly known as the White Helmets.” Elsewhere on the State Department’s website the group is referenced as “first responders” in Syria; however, it remains an indisputable fact that the group only operates in al-Qaeda and anti-Assad insurgent held territory.   Continue reading “US Officially Resumes Funding For The White Helmets In Syria”
