Cigarette wholesalers are lobbying Massachusetts state lawmakers to support legislation that would force a soon-to-be cannabis industry to adopt the regulated infrastructure of the tobacco industry.

Recreational marijuana sales will be legal in Massachusetts in the middle of next year, and companies required by law to track, transport and tax cigarettes are pushing for the same federally-mandated, monopoly power over medical marijuana, the Boston Globe reported Tuesday.   Continue reading “Marijuana Is The New Frontier For MA Tobacco Wholesalers”

One cannot help but experience a bit of schadenfreude what with major parts of England being destroyed all around the country, over and over again.  One thinks automatically, that every time it happens there, it doesn’t happen here.

I wonder, though, if there is a reason why it keeps happening over there, and not here with quite so much frequency.  What if one of the tourists walking along the Westminster Bridge, just one person, had a gun, or on the London Bridge, or at the concern in Manchester, (just to name a very few recent terrorist attacks), what a difference it would have made.   Continue reading “How To Disarm Your Citizens: A Brief History Of Gun Control In England”

Illinois is a mess. Taxes and spending already are too high, and huge unfunded liabilities point to an even darker future.

Simply stated, politicians and government employee unions have created an unholy alliance to extract as much money as possible from the state’s beleaguered private sector.

That’s not a surprise. Indeed, it’s easily explained by the “stationary bandit” theory of government.   Continue reading “Illinois on the Brink of Fiscal Meltdown”

The Democrat-controlled Illinois House approved protections for illegal immigrants, made voter registration automatic for state residents, and passed more severe punishments for gun crimes Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Senate President and Democrat John Cullerton, who supported the immigration bill in the Senate, said it will “provide stability” for Illinois’ estimated half-million illegal immigrants by preventing state and local law enforcement from arresting them. Democratic legislators admit the measure is a direct response to President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, which they say has caused Illinois communities to “live in fear.”   Continue reading “Illinois House Blocks Arrest Of Illegal Immigrants, Makes Voter Registration Automatic”

An elderly, but hardy cattleman from Texas once told a young female neighbor that if she wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder on her oatmeal each morning. She did this religiously and lived to the ripe old age of 103. She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a 40 foot hole where the crematorium used to be.

Every day of 2016, New York City held an average of 7,633 people in jail for pretrial detention. Pretrial detention means that these are people who have yet to be convicted of any crime, and who are, in one of our criminal justice system’s most important stipulations, presumed innocent. The United States is setting a new precedent for its civilians.  If you’re poor, you get to face time in the slammer for the crime of not being able to post bail.  Whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty?” Because 3800 of New York’s jailed people are behind bars for one reason:

They don’t have enough money.   Continue reading “About 3800 People Are Jailed In New York For The Crime Of Being Poor”

Picture the stereotypical pot smoker: young, dazed and confused. Marijuana has long been known for its psychoactive effects, which can include cognitive impairment. But new research published this week in Nature Medicine suggests the drug might affect older users very differently than young ones—at least in mice. Instead of impairing learning and memory as it does in young people, the drug appears to reverse age-related declines in the cognitive performance of elderly mice.   Continue reading “Marijuana May Boost, Rather Than Dull, the Elderly Brain”

The HPV vaccine controversy has got many people confused. Here’s what you need to know. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a very common virus that is transmitted via sexual contact. Symptoms aren’t always apparent and someone can be a carrier without knowing it. The virus, like influenza, will usually go away on its own. If the immune system is not working optimally, however, the virus can linger, causing genital warts. There is also evidence that extended exposure to the virus can cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, anus, rectum, mouth, throat, penis, and vulva.   Continue reading “Lead Developer Of HPV Vaccines Comes Clean, Warns Parents & Young Girls It’s All A Giant Deadly Scam”

Concealed carry permits rose 215 percent between 2007 and 2015, and the murder rate dropped 14 percent during that same time period.

In other words, more guns being carried for self-defense correlated with fewer murders.
