McAllan Texas – A Border Patrol agent pursuing a group of immigrants in a wooded area near the Texas-Mexico border on Friday fired several shots at an armed man who later identified himself as a militia member.

Border Patrol spokesman Omar Zamora said agents had been chasing a group of immigrants east of Brownsville Friday afternoon when an agent saw a man holding a gun near the Rio Grande. The agent fired four shots, but did not hit the man. The man then dropped his gun and identified himself as a member of a militia. Zamora said no other details were immediately available.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio, whose agency is involved in the investigation, said the incident occurred on private property and it appeared the man had permission to be there. He was not arrested, Lucio said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was wearing camouflage and carrying a long arm that was either a rifle or shotgun, Lucio said. The agent had lost the group of immigrants when he turned around and saw the man holding the weapon.

An unknown number of militia members have come to the Texas border following a surge in illegal immigration this summer.

But Lucio said, “We really don’t need the militia here.” He recognized they have the right to carry weapons, but noted that with the Border Patrol, Texas Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement, there are enough agencies working to secure the border. Gov. Rick Perry also called as many as 1,000 National Guard members to the border.

“It just creates a problem from my point of view, because we don’t know who they are,” Lucio said.

This month, the Border Patrol warned its agents about militia members after seven of them dressed in camouflage and carrying rifles appeared out of the dark and began helping to apprehend immigrants around a canal near Mission. The agents initially mistook them for a Department of Public Safety tactical team.

  1. I have no doubt that the border patrol are FULLY aware which ranchers and farmers have militia patrolling their private property, and the ONLY problem I see is that those BP on the take can no longer be sure there won’t be militiamen observing a payoff, cash or drugs, from cartel gang bangers and coyotes for allowing alien invaders entry or allowing the bangers and coyotes to “escape.” I’m not saying that all BP are that corrupt, but the corruption of law enforcement in general along the Texas border has existed for decades, and everyone in south Texas, and particularly along the border, knows you take care of your own problems and do not call the LEOs.

  2. Agree with Enbe.
BP only knows how to thug up on Americans and becomes deaf, dumb and blind with Cartel mules.
Just doing his job keeping by keeping his section of the “toll road” clear.
If only half of them did their jobs, we wouldn’t have this problem and the militia members would be home.

  3. There are rules of engagement for our military , but this bp thug wanted to harass this Militiaman , he may been instructed to do so . Remain calm , Return Fire .

  4. “But Lucio said, “We really don’t need the militia here.””

Don’t need to be there?!!! 😯

BAHAHAHA!!! ROLMFAO!! (shaking my head in disbelief)

Then how come there are well over 10,000 illegals crossing the border every month? I’d say you’d need every person you can get, you dumbass!

As a matter of fact sheriff, the people of that county need to fire your ass for incompetence and stupidity and for further jeopardizing national security (what little national security we have these days) in addition to the BP agent who did the shooting.

Unfrigginbelievable……He must have been paid for by the treasonous government or the drug cartels in order to start something with the militia.

    1. Well, of course! They gotta make a case out of it, so they can demonize and get rid of the militia. This is the perfect way to discredit them so they can help the drug cartels and the treasonous government bring in more invaders without a problem.

I bet this whole thing was planned. Have a group of illegals lead a corrupt BP officer towards a militia member and then have them mysteriously disappear at the same time that the BP officer finds the militia man sitting there with the gun.

      Your classic frame-up.

  5. What the heck are these idiots going to do when Deer Season opens next month? Fire on every hunter they see?

I just have to ask: WHY???

Thought it was “hands off, let ’em come on in”.

Or can they tell the difference between the Mexican illegals, and the S. American ones?
