British Police Officer Shot Dead In Canada

A British police officer serving in Canada has been shot dead while investigating a hate crime.

Constable Daniel Woodall, 35, was shot a number of times after approaching a house near 186th Street and 62nd Avenue in Edmonton on Monday night.

His colleague, Sergeant Jason Harley, 38, survived despite being shot in the back.

As reinforcements were called, the house burst into flames. The gunman is thought to have died in the fire.

Police later said they were “no longer looking for a suspect”.

Mr Woodall, a father of two, was recruited from Greater Manchester Police in 2006 to serve with Edmonton Police Service’s hate crimes unit.

He was the first officer to be killed on duty in Edmonton for 25 years.

Sgt Harley was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound and later released.

Chief Rod Knecht said the two officers were trying to arrest a man wanted for criminal harassment.

“This is a tragic night for the Edmonton Police Service and our city,” he said.

“I am extremely saddened to have to announce the death of one of our officers and the serious injury to another officer.

“On behalf of the entire EPS family, our condolences go out to their families during this tragic time.”

Detective Inspector Jim Faulkner, from Greater Manchester Police, said he was shocked by his former colleague’s death.

“He would do anything for any of his colleagues, every one of whom liked him and were sad when he decided to leave for Canada,” he said.

“This was done purely for the benefit of his young family.

“There are a number of jobs I can remember him being involved in, but one sticks in my mind.

“Whilst he was dealing with a serious assault, the offender returned to the scene.

“Dan was keen to make the arrest, but the offender ran off on seeing Dan.

“Unperturbed, Dan gave chase and threw his torch at the offender’s back, which caused him to stumble and fall. Dan promptly arrested him.

“I can’t really comprehend this has happened and I am in shock. It really is tragic and my heart and thoughts go out to his family and colleagues.”

  1. There is no specification of what type of hate crime. If it is hate speech, holocaust denial, or the like than I say: If one enforces an outlandish policy perhaps the enforcer should consider the consequences. If it is in fact due to outlandish policy, I have no tears for the flat foot, and hope that the perp escaped.

  2. “As reinforcements were called, the house burst into flames.”

Spontaneous combustion? We have propagandist IDIOTS writing “news” articles anymore.

  3. The police were serving papers to this Man as he was for a long time harassing a Family, who was in fear for their lives.
