Remembering the heroes, many unnamed, and concerning Lexington Green… Quite an anniversary today:
“…colonial militia had assembled on the morning of April 19, 1775, and encountered a force of British redcoats who were on their way to neighboring Concord to confiscate armaments. Shots rang out; eight militiamen died; nine were wounded; The Revolutionary War had begun.”
— James Perloff
I wish a good Patriot’s Day, to all who understand, value, and ever work to defend freedom.
.
Wow, 250 years ago today!! Have we learned all we could since then?
Here’s the last verse of ‘Paul Revere’s Ride’ by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
“So through the night rode Paul Revere
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,
A cry of defiance and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo forevermore
For borne on the night-wind of the past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere”
.
What Paul Revere wanted us to know:
“The cry for freedom rings loudest in the hearts of those willing to act.“
“In times of peril, we must be the first to rise and rally our brothers!”
“In the Fall of 1774 & Winter of 1775, I was one of upwards of thirty, chiefly mechanics, who formed ourselves into a committee for the purpose of watching the movements of the British soldiers, and gaining every intelligence of the movements of the Tories.”
“In Medford, I awaked the Captain of the Minute Men; and after that, I alarmed almost every house, till I got to Lexington.”
“Every action taken for the cause of freedom is a step toward securing our legacy.”
“The flame of liberty must be kept alive by brave hearts!”
“Courage is the first step toward freedom; it is the flame that guides us.”
“It is better to fight and fail than to sit idly while tyranny thrives.”
“The best defense is always the readiness to rise!”
“Fear may stir in the shadows, but courage rides forth!”
“Each risk we take is a testament to our commitment to freedom!”
“Our legacy compels the next generation to act!”
“A great leader values courage over comfort and challenges over complacency.”
“In our hearts, we hold the keys to our own independence!”
“Each act of bravery solidifies the fabric of our freedom!”
“To forget our past is to forfeit our future!”
“An individual’s courage can ignite a movement!”
“I rode not for glory, but for the heartbeat of our nation!”
“Our revolution is fueled by the desire for self-governance and liberty!”
