EGG HARBOR CITY — Hours after he was injured in a fiery car crash, an Egg Harbor City detective was charged today with exploiting his position as a police officer to have sexual relationships with four different women, according to a report by the Press of Atlantic City.
Steven Hadley, 31, was charged with four counts of official misconduct, according to the report. The nine-year veteran officer was also critically injured today when his pick-up truck veered off the Garden State Parkway, leading to a fiery crash near Little Egg Harbor Township, the report said. Minutes after midnight on Wednesday, Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) rose to give his colleague Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) a breather from what was already a marathon speech warning of the “train wreck” that is resulting from the collision of the American economy with the oppression of ObamaCare.

Eight people on board Greenpeace’s ship Arctic Sunrise will spend two months in pre-trial detention, accused of “piracy” in the boarding of a Russian oil rig platform, a Murmansk court ruled, the environmental group said on its Twitter account.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Wednesday the court eventually will have to determine the legality of far-reaching National Security Agency spying programs, though he is not convinced the court is equipped to based on modern security threats.

A well-known and highly respected Yemeni anti-drone activist was detained yesterday by UK officials under that country’s “anti-terrorism” law at Gatwick Airport, where he had traveled to speak at an event. Baraa Shiban, the project co-ordinator for the London-based legal charity Reprieve, was held for an hour and a half and repeatedly questioned about his anti-drone work and political views regarding human rights abuses in Yemen. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The IRS is unable to account for $67 million spent from a slush fund established for Obamacare implementation, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) report released today.
The “Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund” (HIRIF) was tucked into Obamacare in order to give the IRS money to enforce the tax provisions of the healthcare law. The fund, totaling some $1 billion of taxpayer money, was used to roll out enforcement mechanisms for the approximately 50 tax provisions of Obamacare. A Palestinian village home to 120 people had its houses, kindergarten and shepherding stables demolished this week by Israeli authorities. This came after the Supreme Court ruled its inhabitants – some of whom have lived on the land for generations – didn’t have proper building permits.
The Palestinian Bedouin village of Khirbet Al-Makhul, located in the occupied territories, is the third such village to be demolished by Israel since August. After it was destroyed on Monday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) attempted to deliver emergency aid to the displaced residents on Tuesday and Wednesday, but were stopped by Israeli soldiers. A group consisting of 40 state attorneys general has petitioned the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) calling upon the regulatory agency to start regulating electronic cigarettes in much the same way that they do tobacco products.
In a letter dated September 24, members of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) urged the FDA to meet the agency’s own, previously-established October 31 deadline to propose regulations regarding the advertising, ingredients and sale of the battery-powered devices to minors. WASHINGTON – The Justice Department’s internal watchdog says the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives mounted dozens of undercover investigations into illicit cigarette sales without proper approval.

Police in California would be prohibited from helping deport some illegal immigrants under a bill being considered by Gov. Jerry Brown, in a proposed change some say would violate federal law.
The so-called Trust Act would bar police from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on a variety of cases. Proponents say the bill is narrowly focused and only applies to those illegal immigrants arrested for minor crimes.
