Cooking a Chicken with a Sun Oven

Published on Mar 29, 2014 by GetReadyIt’sComing!

The clouds finally left and we cooked a chicken with the Sun Oven.

It never got above 310 degrees, but it was very windy and a little chilly outside. I am positive that it will get much hotter. I am still learning how to angle it and position it.

I definitely recommend one of these for your preps. We are going to continue to use it so we can get really good at it. The chicken was delicious!!!!!

  1. That is our German Shepherd Sasha, it is killing her that she cannot pick up or bite that basketball!! I think she really wants thumbs for Christmas!!! 🙂 The chicken was delicious!!

    1. Glad a good meal, will be honest, without the dog would have passed on watching, good move, you in sales,if not you have the mind/skills for it!

    2. Was that a female? It looked to me like she was trying to mount that basketball for some mating activity.

      1. JR,
Yes she is a female. She tries to pick it up all the time. She is a serious fetcher and can’t stand the fact that she can’t pick this one up. I am going to deflate it a little for her

    1. Definitely. Towards the end I actually saw one fly over at a pretty good altitude with NO trail at all. Then one had an actual contrail that went away. Then we had one that left the spray. All at close to the same altitude. But Chem trails don’t exist. They are a conspiracy theory. Yeah right.
But the chicken was great and we are going to learn how to make it work better. I would definitely recommend one.

      1. so glad you posted it. Have admired the sun oven for years. Like the principal for sure. Have a solo stove for small cooking. works pretty good.

        1. I TRIED to build one last year. I couldn’t quite get water to boil. It was worth it to me to let the experts make one. I like to make it if I can, but they really did a good job.

  2. Fantastic Bulldog and Missy!

Low and slow makes for a succulent chicken. Poor Sasha seemed a little frustrated that she couldn’t pick up the ball. LOL I put a basketball in with my two GS boys and they popped it with their jaws of life. haha

    1. She is a great shepherd. That basketball is really frustrating her though. I am going to let a little air out for her so she can destroy it like she does the rest of her toys.

  3. That sun oven looks like a real cool device. I think Henry’s house probably gets a double-dose of chemtrails, so sunlight’s a rare commodity there, but that chicken you cooked looked pretty tasty to me.
