CBS Chicago – by Steve MillerCHICAGO (CBS) – A Chicago man might think twice the next time he goes into a police station to report something as stolen.
On Friday night, 31-year-old Adam Wisneski rode his bike to the Shakespeare District police station on the Northwest Side to report a stolen iPhone.
He says he didn’t have his bike lock with him, and asked police if he could leave his bicycle inside the station.
They said OK, and he did. He then filled out a police report about the phone.
“I turned around and my bike was gone. At first I thought somebody was playing a joke on me, like one of the officers had walked around the corner, or something, just to be funny,” Wisneski said.
But, no. It was gone; stolen.
“I was just dejected. Like, you’ve got to be kidding me. And I turned around and I told the officer, ‘I would like to file another police report, please,’ Wisneski said. “He laughed and said, ‘Okay, you don’t have to tell me what happened.’”
Wisneski said police suspect a homeless person who was in the station might have taken it.
Police News Affairs could not immediately confirm the details.
Wisneski said police have been making an effort to find his bike.
