TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 15 (UPI) — An Israeli energy company said it’s discovered what may be the third largest natural gas basin in the country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Minority partner Israel Opportunity said the so-called Royee field may hold around 3.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Located in the eastern Mediterranean, it would be the third largest in the region after the Leviathan and Tamar fields if reserve estimates are correct. A gunman suspected of killing at least five people at three separate locations in Pennsylvania’s Montgomery County has barricaded himself inside a home in Souderton. A SWAT team is on the scene.
The first shooting was reported at 3:55 a.m. Monday in Lower Salford Township, about 45 minutes northwest of Philadelphia. Police found a woman shot to death at the location, WPVI reported. Forensics investigators from Montgomery County could be seen investigating a unit there, and two bullet holes were visible, according to WCAU. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Long depicted as the rootin’-tootin’ capital of American gun culture, Texas is one of the few states with an outright ban on the open carry of handguns.
That could change in 2015, with the Republican-dominated Legislature and Gov.-elect Greg Abbott expected to push for expanded gun rights. “If open carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it’s good enough for the state of Texas,” Abbott said the day after his election last month. CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) – Former Chicago cop Steve Mandell was sentenced to life in prison plus five years Thursday after a federal judge ruled that the public needs to be protected from him, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Convicted at the end of a spectacularly lurid trial in February, Mandell, 64, plotted to abduct Riverside businessman Steve Campbell, take him to a purpose-built Northwest Side torture chamber, extort him into turning over property, then kill him and chop him up with a meat cleaver and a buzz-saw on a man-sized butcher’s block. Much of his planning was captured on tape secretly by the FBI. The feds arrested him before the scheme could be carried out. Five people have escaped from a popular Sydney cafe after they had been taken hostage — with others still held inside as neighboring blocks remain locked down, authorities said.
Two people inside the cafe were seen holding up a flag with Arabic writing on it that has been used by extremists in the past — raising fears that a terror attack was unfolding in Australia’s largest city.
