KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — After more than 40 years at war, one of Afghanistan’s most notorious warlords, designated a “global terrorist” by the United States and blacklisted by the United Nations along with Osama bin Laden, wants to come out of the shadows.

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, now in his late 60s, says he wants a “real and fair peace” but with conditions the Kabul government is unlikely to even contemplate, such as the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Afghanistan and new elections in 2016.   Continue reading “Notorious warlord seeks comeback, leverage in Afghanistan”

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A sex offender with a stolen boarding pass got through airport security in Salt Lake City and checked in at a gate for a flight to California before he was caught earlier this month, authorities have disclosed.

It should be common knowledge now that law enforcement has no hesitation in abandoning morality to achieve its goals. During interrogation of suspects, they can lie, offer false rewards, harass and threaten in the pursuit of a confession, deceiving the suspect into waiving his constitutional rights. This is used on children too, resulting in a high rate of false confessions.   Continue reading “How Cops Use “Psychopaths and Liars” and Often Become Them to Achieve their Goals”

Turkey is so militarily inferior to Russia that it is unlikely Turkey would commit an act of war against Russia without encouragement from Washington. We might think that Turkey would feel shielded by NATO, but it is doubtful that many European members of NATO would risk nuclear annihiliation by going to war with Russia in order to save Turkey from the consequences of such a reckless and irresponsible act as shooting down a Russian military aircraft and lying about it. Turkey has issued no apology and no believable explanation. Unless Erdogan has lost his mind, Washington is behind the shootdown, and the reason is Washington’s desperation to decode the new Russian technology that gives Russian forces total control over a battlefield, whether on land, sea, or air.   Continue reading “Why did Turkey shoot down a Russian Air Force jet?”

In the autumn of 2012, when Walmart first heard about the possibility of a strike on Black Friday, executives mobilized with the efficiency that had built a retail empire. Walmart has a system for almost everything: When there’s an emergency or a big event, it creates a Delta team. The one formed that September included representatives from global security, labor relations, and media relations. For Walmart, the stakes were enormous. The billions in sales typical of a Walmart Black Friday were threatened. The company’s public image, especially in big cities where its power and size were controversial, could be harmed. But more than all that: Any attempt to organize its 1 million hourly workers at its more than 4,000 stores in the U.S. was an existential danger. Operating free of unions was as essential to Walmart’s business as its rock-bottom prices.   Continue reading “Walmart hired Lockheed Martin to monitor employee activism”

On Wednesday, 25 November, 2015, President Barack Hussein Obama signed the National Defense Authorization act.  He had vetoed the first version of the bill to reach his desk on 22 October, 2015, about a month ago.  In the latest version, S. 1356, there is a section, 1087, which re-authorizes the Civilian Marksmanship Program to sell surplus 1911 and 1911A1 pistols and their parts and accessories to the public.  The sales are limited to 10,000 per year.  There are about 100,000 of these pistols available that are surplus, so they should be available for several years.   Continue reading “Obama Signs NDAA; DCM to Sell Surplus .45s”
