KTLA 5 News – by Tracy BloomA deputy shot and killed a mentally ill man who was armed with a knife following a confrontation in Carson early Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The fatal shooting occurred in the 23000 block of Marbella Avenue (map) shortly before 1 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Carson Station initially responded to the scene after receiving a report regarding a mentally ill person who was armed with a knife, the release stated.
When they arrived, the man allegedly confronted one of the deputies, at which point he was shot, according to the Department.
The man was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
A steak knife was recovered at the scene, according to the release.
Homicide detectives were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the deputy-involved shooting and no additional information was immediately available.

Maybe I’m being dense, but aren’t those the kind of situations that tazors were designed for? Back in the day before tazors, personal tear gas cylinders, etc. we handled those situations through disarming techniques taught to us by hand to hand experts. Certainly more dangerous, but that’s what we believed we were there for.
Yes, don’t they teach any form of hand to hand disarmament any more?
I guess they only teach how to fire their weapons. Then the academies can push through the cadets much faster and get the older more intelligent cops into retirement. Cops were once proud of the fact that they never pulled their service arm out of the holster in their entire carrier. Now if there is more than one coproach on the scene, they all must fire. Now why didn’t the coproaches just kill that woman on Crack in one of the later stories here?

I always say, NEVER call the cops! However, maybe its becoming a way for people to get rid of someone they don’t like. Maybe the person who reported the situation to the department wanted the guy dead. Since all the cops in America today have been trained by Israel to treat all of us as “terrorists”…you can pretty much count on the police using deadly force as their first option when dealing with anyone about anything.
Dog cather and his net would have worked better. Next time call the pound not the police for such.
