I don’t trust people who make bitter reflections about war, Mrs. Barham. It’s always the generals with the bloodiest records who are the first to shout what a Hell it is. And it’s always the widows who lead the Memorial Day parades . . . we shall never end wars, Mrs. Barham, by blaming it on ministers and generals or warmongering imperialists or all the other banal bogies. It’s the rest of us who build statues to those generals and name boulevards after those ministers; the rest of us who make heroes of our dead and shrines of our battlefields. We wear our widows’ weeds like nuns and perpetuate war by exalting its sacrifices….
My brother died at Anzio — an everyday soldier’s death, no special heroism involved. They buried what pieces they found of him. But my mother insists he died a brave death and pretends to be very proud. . . . [N]ow my other brother can’t wait to reach enlistment age. That’ll be in September. May be ministers and generals who blunder us into wars, but the least the rest of us can do is to resist honoring the institution. What has my mother got for pretending bravery was admirable? She’s under constant sedation and terrified she may wake up one morning and find her last son has run off to be brave.
I believe that all the young men and women who went off into the iraq and aphghanistan wars of recent memory think and believed in those same false patriotisms which have been exploited by the rich and wealthy to do there testing and biding for there agendas as well. Was always fearful of the draft and the requirement to sign up for the draft for college. After vietnam blunder war and the cost involved for the war machine of america saw the iraqi war as another way to test out the toys of the machine.
We would have no war
IF WE WOULD REFUSE TO SIGN UP….
They can’t have war without OUR CHILDREN, because
THEY WILL NOT GO TO WAR,
AND THEY WILL NOT SEND ‘THEIR’ CHILDREN.
NO ONE is attacking this country….

STAY HOME AND PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES.

Agreed interesting how this country has never been attacked from abroad from any country but by so call terrorist. I always wondered who the real terrorist is? Having unlimited money and power allows any one or group to do anything they create in there minds and people are easily purchased with $ and power over others. Why so many feel less than I dont know. I deal with this issue with my girlfriends daughter who always compares her self to others and I tell or suggest she not be confused with this idea and create her own world with her own due diligence and make her own way in life by asking question of herself and others and be informed and keep an open mind as most dont know what an open mind is and how to practice that concept.
I believe people are massively uninformed. In school we are indoctrinated into the idea of we are the best and have the right to police the world after all we are always right and they the communists, socialists and fascists are the evil ones. We never take the time to study wars we accept what they tell us as to the causes of wars not realizing that it is a great money making scheme that make a select few very rich and the rest can lose everything. Might does not make right and those that pick up the gun to do the dirty work of the bankers need to realize they are being used and are considered fodder by the Elite. Back in the seventies they cried. “make love not war” and “what if they gave a war and nobody came” If these wars have a chance in hell in ending the grunt must lay down his gun and say No More. Violence begets more violence and it goes on and on.
I have no disagreement with your comments and have a good Memorial day and let keep hoping that internet and openness continues to educate the people of the world. I am beginning to see this happening but its a long long way still.

I dont believe one should be so harsh with our fellow. Its about communication education and human condition.

Me and my girlfriend essentially live on 2200 a month in a condo we live lean and buy mainly veggetable and fruits and some meats and have only basic internet but its been like this for 3 years in San Diego. Granted help from abroad helped get into this condo which has caused an added 300 mo from renting which is a rip off so agreed there, but buying hard assets is best as I belive we are in the early early stages of long term bull run longer than the late 80s,90s IMO Happy Memorial Day
You believe wrongly. We happen to be in the last stages of an attempted total communist takeover of this country, and if you’re not prepping for war, you’re as good as dead.
The PTB have always created a war to create a job to make themselve look like the GD savior of the planet, and then people get possessive and greedy, and that is the main intent of the PTB that start the wars in the first place. The Ones that think that they are in charge are having a good time entertaining themselves watching all of the people suffering and having conflicts like riots and protests. Yep The so called leaders of this world get off on wars and starting conflicts and the people just seem to buy into their little war games. This is why you rarely ever see any poloticion or world leaders kids carrying a gun into battle, instead they – the PTB – will be pointing their fingers and sipping their champaign with caviar and crackers.
