Don’t Take Weather Advice From Matt Drudge

Popular Science – by Grennan Milliken

As Hurricane Matthew charges into Florida with winds up to 140 mph, approximately 1.5 million people are preparing to clear out of the storm’s path. By Thursday evening, the National Weather Service was imploring residents to head to safety. “Now is the time to urgently hide from the wind. Failure to adequately shelter may result in serious injury, loss of life or immense human suffering,” the agency said on its website. On Thursday, President Obama declared a State of Emergency in Florida.

And then there was Matt Drudge, who was instead declaring a state of conspiracy. The founder of the Drudge Report spent his evening blasting out tweets that the storm’s forecast was grossly overblown. He even went so far as to accuse the government of exaggerating Hurricane Matthew’s intensity just to make a point about the dangers of climate change. Not kidding.

What. The. Bleep.

Hugh Cobb, Chief of the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, told Popular Science that he was aware of Drudge’s comments and that while he would not comment directly on them, he reacted with a groan. Cobb emphasized that all of NOAA’s data is collected straight from the storm using reconnaissance aircraft. Aircraft have no political agenda.

Lead Forecaster Martin Nelson, also of the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch, hammered home the same point saying “We go with our data. That’s the end of it,” adding “We use the science that we have and that’s what we do.”

Cobb reiterated that this is “an extremely dangerous storm” that must be taken very seriously. Which is to say, get your weather information from weather agencies–not an Internet trash heap with an agenda.

  1. Figures dont lie

    but..Liars can figure

No aircraft dont lie..but the data can always be manipulated by man ..
all these systems are built by man, so they can be manipulated by those who understand how the systems work

I happen to have people down there(well floriduh) and they are telling me.. its not as bad as they said it was hyped to be ( in Florida, cant comment on any place else but 3 locations i know people in Orlando, Daytona, and Ocala.. its also not their first rodeo on one of these deals , they all stated home , not ran for the hills)

if it comes from a state sponsored source.. you cant trust it , even if it is right for once

  2. Screw your science, you’ve proved to be liars, so why should anyone believe you.
Remember hurricane Patricia, a +5 which was totally fake?

Here is some text from http://82.221.129.208/basepagei5.html
From the current observations by people on the ground in Florida, Matthew is not a hurricane. Matthew is at most a tropical storm. Tropical storms can have an eye like a hurricane, but if the winds are not enough, a storm is all they are. THEY LIED ABOUT MATTHEW TO FRONT A CLIMATE CHANGE SCAM, AND GUESS WHAT? IT WILL STAY ON THE RECORD AS A CAT 5.

  3. Just a minor reminder from a simple central Texas observer. The NW,W,SW side of a hurricane is usually less damaging than the NE,E,SE positions.

  4. Update for Sanford/lake Mary

I believe it got downgraded to us to a Level 2. We got a lot of rain but it was absorbed by the ground. Areas of Sanford flooded to about 6 inches so far.

The power blinked off 8 times so far but came back almost in seconds.

Still windy but most of the trees and branches are already on the ground our side South and West is a mess but no damage yet. Our arbor covering the sidewalk entrance fell over. Our neighbor lost a tree but it fell away from her house and the fence for which she is very grateful.

My cat, unable to find and get in Lil’bit came in finally and dry cant figure that one, she obviously found a dry spot.

Still a lot of wind and noises hoping for the best.

So far so good hope it stays that way we got hit real bad with Francis and I have to admit we were very nervous from the reports of this one.

    1. glad your safe, but it was just like a afternoon thunderstorm, i went thru andrew and believe me this was nothing, but listen to the idiot box and there scare tact ticks and these assholes make out the sky is falling and the end is coming, these people should be hanged .

  5. Downgraded at 2am to 120mph, yet impacts at 68mph, with retard weather reporters doing live reporting ..! What the ptb, manipulating the masses for gain or other reasons, oh say it isnt so…not in free America….hahaha, fkn ha…! Business as usual….& u saw how Clinton was gonna buy prime time ads on the weather channel, during mathew reporting windows….yep no connection whatsoever, me thinks drudge figured it out quick….
