Homeless Mother Who Sent Six-Year-Old Son To Better School In The Wrong Town Sent To Prison For Five Years

Counter Current News – by Jeremiah Jones

A homeless mother who pleaded guilty to fraudulently enrolling her six-year-old son in the wrong school district has been sentenced to five years in prison.

According to Graham Smith with Daily Mail, Tonya McDowell sent her son to an elementary school in Norwalk, Connecticut, instead of her home city of Bridgeport.

The 34-year-old, who was homeless when she was charged with felony larceny last year, said she wanted the best education possible for the boy.

rawImageMcDowell entered her plea at Norwalk Superior Court under the Alford Doctrine, which means she does not admit guilt but concedes she does not believe she will win the case.

Even though she was homeless, authorities said that she used a babysitter’s address to enroll her son in kindergarten in Norwalk when he should have attended schools in Bridgeport, her last permanent address.

Her case drew national attention and support from civil rights leaders and other advocates who wanted the charge dismissed.

The 34-year-old, who was homeless when she was charged last year, said she wanted the best education possible for her son.

McDowell told police she was living in a van and occasionally slept at a Norwalk shelter or a friend’s Bridgeport apartment when she enrolled her son Norwalk’s Brookside Elementary School.

Police accused McDowell of stealing $15,686 worth of ‘free’ educational services from Norwalk.

Smith also reports, “McDowell’s lawyer, Darnell Crosland, said she agreed to accept a plea bargain rather than continue fighting the charges even though she insists she is not guilty.”

Mr Crosland said: ‘You shouldn’t be arrested for stealing a free education. It’s just wrong.’

Why is a homeless lady being treated this way? If she lives in a van and sometimes stays in Norwalk, then how can they accuse her of stealing a free education? This isn’t justice! This is taking away an opportunity for the son of a homeless woman and unjustly imprisoning someone who wants opportunities for her son.

  1. Police said she stole.
    Ha ha haaaaaa……
    That’s like a hooker telling a john they’re a virgin.
Now if she was stealing weed and drug money from the police evidence room.
She’d be on paid administrative leave.

  2. First off, where’s the father/husband?
Second, why is she putting her child in a school?
Thirdly, she IS stealing from those that are forced to pay property taxes to fund that school her child was in.
Fourthly, has she burned so many bridges she has no where to call home or is this a choice?
Fifthly, anyone that goes to prison for just about anything, compared to Hillary’s crimes yet she runs for pres., should not be in prison compared to criminal Hillary.
Another thing, if I were in her position my children would be with me at ALL times, period. My lifestyle would have to accommodate this responsibility. I would get a job where my children would come, and if old enough, they’d be assisting me in feeding and clothing them and if there were youngins, the older ones would be caring for them, in my sight and digging ourselves out of our situation.

  3. The charges are absurd. How can they say she’s stealing from one public school when she simply wanted to have her kid enroll in a different one? Is the cost per student that much different between the two schools?

Even if this could rightly be considered a crime, five years in prison is outrageous. That causes WAY more damage to her than she ever did to anyone else by merely switching schools.

  4. I thought we had school of choice ?
    doesn’t this state recognize this?

my questions are asked without research, because i dont live there , and really dont care about that commie state that the people have allowed to function like this for so long with out revolt .. if these people really want their state governments to work,, they should get rid of every politician in office across the board and let them feel what its like to be unemployed

    but i digress
is this really about prison for profit? .. or is this about putting someone in prison because they cant pay ? like debtors prison ..

how do you steal an education? .. let alone steal an indoctrination?

Got 2 words for ya .. Home School !
I refuse to play their games
and way too many unanswered issues with this story

  5. Another lesson for someone to learn

    NEVER take a plea

It’s self false incrimination first of all
Secondly , good chances are the fact they want you to cop a plea … Is because they have no real or true basis in law to prosecute you with
So , when you cop a plea , you are giving them everything they need to continue on with a charge

Come on people , we can’t ALL be this stupid , right?

  6. “Police accused McDowell of stealing $15,686 worth of ‘free’ educational services from Norwalk.”

Mammon that was stolen from the American people to begin with.

“Why is a homeless lady being treated this way?”

    She’s not a jew.

“This is taking away an opportunity for the son of a homeless woman…”

An opportunity to be a good little slave?

  7. A bulshit story from a probable zionist controlled disinformation site about the zionist mafia controlled state that brought us Sandy Hoax.
Ask Wolfgang Halbig about how easy it would be to research the “public records” facts of this case.

  8. And I forgot to mention the “authors” hebrew origin first name meaning “yahweh has uplifted”.
Apparent a big wig old testament profit…or may prophet.
