Idaho Army National Guard trains for upcoming deployment

ABC 6 News – by Brandon Fonda

The Idaho Army National Guard is pulling out the big guns to get ready for their upcoming deployment. 25 hundred Idaho soldiers will be sent to the army’s most premier training facility in California.

The Idaho National Guard will get the best training in the world at the National Training Center. And to be ready for their deployment they are shooting live ammunition and training at the Orchard Combat Training Center near Gowen Air Field.

Team leaders are studying every detail in order to improve.

“Time, accuracy, identification of the target, fire commands between the section,” Maj. Jason Gracida, Army National Guard said.

Today soldiers are practicing moving downrange and coordinating their fire at pop up targets.

“And it’s just working as one Humvee one Bradley together, identifying targets together based off of how armored that vehicle is, whether it’s infantry,” Gracida said.

The M2 Bradley’s mission, along with a Humvee, is scouting.

“We’re not in the business of getting in to a fight with anybody, we are really trying to paint the picture for those armored battalions and the boss and say hey this is what you have out here this is what you can expect,” Gracida said.

But the M2 Bradley can still pack a punch, the bad guys in their sights will have to deal with some big ammunition.

“This is 25 millimeter training SABO, it’s for anti armor, so that’s what we use to kill personnel carriers and things of the like,” Sgt. Wood, Idaho National Guard said.

Sgt. Wood and his crew are being deployed soon, they’ve been chosen to ship out to California to train at the National Training Center, the Army’s top training grounds for tanks.

It’s a rare honor for Colonel Johnson’s men, he says usually the Army chooses fully active units for this type of training. It will be the first time in 15 years that a National Guard unit has been chosen for the training.

“It’s a huge kudos for us to maintain essentially the same training level as our active component brothers and sisters do,” Colonel Russell Johnson, Army National Guard said.

“To represent Idaho Montana, Oregon at the national training center is a huge sense of pride,” Maj. Gracida said.

The upcoming August deployment to the National Training Center is the largest deployment of Idaho Army National Guard since last deployed to Iraq in 2011.

    1. Overseas.
The tyrants don’t want more armed defenders around when the economy tanks [or any one of a number of other likely scenarios detrimental to the citizenry].

  1. “It will be the first time in 15 years that a National Guard unit has been chosen for the training.” Sounds like they are running out of warm bodies.

  2. “Today soldiers are practicing moving downrange and coordinating their fire at pop up targets.”

    Stay low.

  3. “The Idaho Army National Guard is pulling out the big guns to get ready for their upcoming deployment. 25 hundred Idaho soldiers will be sent to the army’s most premier training facility in California.”

    1. Why is a state army being sent to another state for training?
    2. Deployed where? Overseas? And if so, wouldn’t that make them “International” Guard? I still don’t understand how people haven’t come to that realization. It’s not rocket science. “National” is INSIDE the country. “International” is OUTSIDE the country. I think I learned that in the 3rd grade. Where did these people go to school?

    1. You are spot on, NC! Defies the definition altogether. They went to a commie core curriculum school and that explains everything.
