Idaho State trooper shoots, kills motorist near Lookout PassKOBI 2 News

MULLAN, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho State Police trooper shot and killed a motorist along Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass as a sheriff’s deputy struggled with the man over a gun.

Kootenai County officials said the shooting occurred about noon Wednesday just west of the Idaho-Montana state line.

The Shoshone County deputy was responding to a welfare check on the driver, whose car was parked in a turnout area. The trooper arrived to assist.

The deputy discovered the man had a gun and as the two struggled over the weapon, the trooper shot the driver. Neither officer was hurt.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, where he was later pronounced dead. The man’s car had Montana license plates. His name hasn’t been released. An autopsy is planned.

Both the deputy and the trooper were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

The Kootenai County sheriff’s office is investigating and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the altercation to call the sheriff’s office at (208) 446-1300.

  1. There is only one logical conclusion possible: the cop murdered the innocent man and pretended that he had a gun.
The trooper came to assist! But US cops do not think it’s their duty to assist.

  2. Why were they struggling over the gun? Did the cop tell the man he had no legal right to possess a firearm and then tried to take the mans property from him by force? We’re missing some key information here, such as why the officer went from welfare check to murder? What crime, other than the obvious “resisting arrest” charge that is automatic these days, did the man commit?

  3. This story sounds like a coverup. Not surprised. The only thing I’m surprised of is that no dog was shot.

Yea, so they can bury the witnesses and any evidence that they may have so that the deputy can get away with his murder. Do they really think we were born yesterday?
