The Advocate, March 10, 2014NEW IBERIA — State Police are investigating the death of a New Iberia man who apparently shot and killed himself while handcuffed in an Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office vehicle Sunday night, officials said.
Victor White III, 22, was reportedly fighting with others in the 300 block of Lewis Street when deputies, responding to a call, arrived at 11:22 a.m., Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said in a news release.
Deputies who searched White said they found illegal drugs, cuffed his hands behind his back, then placed him in a squad car for transport to the Sheriff’s Office for processing, Hammons said.
“Once at the Sheriff’s Office, White became uncooperative and refused to exit the deputy’s patrol vehicle,” Hammons said.
As the deputy requested assistance, White produced a handgun and fired one round, striking himself in the back, Hammons said.
White was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Louis Ackal asked State Police to investigate the incident. State Police-led investigations in deaths involving officers are normal.
“We’re investigating how he got the gun,” Hammons said late Monday. “It’s too early in our investigation to comment further.”
The Rev. Raymond Brown, president of National Action Now of New Orleans, said Monday night his organization also plans to look into the shooting death. The group also looked into an excessive force complaint against the Iberia Sheriff’s Office following a large street party in September.
“Something is seriously wrong with this picture,” Brown said Monday night of White’s shooting death.

funny how New Iberia is right down the road from us and we never heard this story. New Iberia and Iberia Parish are very crooked and Mason controlled.
Hmm, they searched him and found drugs, but did not find a gun?
This is the second story that I have heard of, where a person was in police custody while hands were cuffed behind their back, and they produced a gun and shot them self.
Isn’t amazing how some of the most obvious clues are disregarded?
If they didn’t shoot him in the squad car, he would have been found dead in his jail cell with his head submerged in the toilet and a pillow shoved down his throat. Police report: ‘Worst case of suicide we have ever seen’.

He must have pulled that gun right out of his place where the sun don’t shine. Police report will reprimand the officers involved for allowing this suspect to pull off the “one cheek sneak”. The only other scenario that is plausible is the cops shot him in the back, handcuffed him, and threw him in the back of the squad car. But, of course, cops never lie and never would even think of harming someone.
maybe a ballistic test on the bullet is in order, you know to show which cops gun killed him, because from what ive heard there is no evidence held that includes a gun that they found on him after the death either..so its also an invisible gun, and one that doesn’t match with the projectile that killed him
seems common sense isn’t so common these days , loss of grey matter on the cops part and that BS story is pathetic

I think that you are right #1. In fact weren`t those all within about one year. If not it hasn`t been that much longer than a year seems to me.

yes, #1 — this is the third time in less than a year (possibly less than six months) that someone is claimed to have shot themselves to death while handcuffed in the back of a police car, after a search proved they were carrying no weapons.
They just kill whomever they want to now, and they don’t even seem worried about making it look like self-defense, or making it look like an accident. They just plug whomever pisses them off, and they always get away with it.
