Forced to close its door amid rampant threats of violence and property damage, the owners of Memories Pizza in Walkerton, Ind., reopened the business Thursday after more than a week. Controversy began when Crystal O’Connor shared her view of what was at the time Indiana’s new religious freedom law, indicating the restaurant would not cater a same-sex wedding.
Though Crystal and her father, Kevin, have since clarified that gays are welcome to eat in the shop, many critics were unable or unwilling to acknowledge the distinction and initiated a public protest against the small business. Supporters quickly responded, however, and combined to raise nearly $850,000 via an online fundraising effort.
The father and daughter recently elaborated on the financial support and the reception during their first day of business since the initial story broke.
“It’s a relief to get going again and try to get back to normal,” O’Connor said.
Business was booming Thursday evening, he confirmed, as regular customers, family friends, and those who just learned of the restaurant in recent days showed up to order some pizza.
He went on to explain that, despite the negative reaction he received by some, he would not change his approach if given a chance.
“I’d do the same thing again,” he explained. “It’s my belief. It’s our belief. It’s what we grew up on. I’m just sorry it comes to this because neither one of us dislike any of those people. I don’t hold any grudges.”
As for the money that poured in during the three-day fundraiser, he said it made them “uncomfortable,” dismissing any rumors he would take the newfound wealth and retire.
Instead, he said he will continue to work in order to leave the business to Crystal.
The younger O’Connor recalled her reaction upon seeing the donation total continue to rise.
“We were like, ‘Stop! Stop! Stop!” she explained.

There is a way to avoid all this ‘gay wedding’ catering bullsh#t.
Allow the faggots to make their request, then simply tell them you’re already booked for that day.
That’s not ‘discrimination’, it’s just business.
A quick way to make a million. If I lived in Indiana, I’d say I don’t serve gays and then have Glenn Beck set up a gofundme for a quick million.
I don’t serve gays. You gotta bring your own!
